Bad idea to run in Cross Trainers?

Are cross trainers ok to go running in? Or should i stick with running shoes?

I think if you are going to run for extended periods of time, then you need to get shoes designed specifically for that. For just training runs and such, I think trainers are just fine.

Well i want to use them at the gym and while running a few miles every so often...

Running a few miles? You should get some running shoes that fit your feet.

Yup, you can get a decent pair of running shoes pretty cheap (I found a reasonable pair of reeboks for C$30 on clearance a few months ago), and they are considerably better than any cross-trainers I've used for running.

New Balance Cross Trainers (1006W) for $49.99 (on clearance from $99)
Nike Impax Run for $59.99 (on sale from $80)
