Backup

I haven't backed up my computer since my last computer. I just burned some games and goodies when I did. I never had to use it.

I had a passing thought that i should back up my computer and wrote it down. I went to do a google search for backup and just found a bunch of advertisements. So i searched backup "how to" and the information was very complex. They reccomended different programs and i didn't know which one was the best and still free.

So i searched the forums and read different utilities they reccomended but i still didn't know if they were good.

Maybe I don't really need to back up. These days, all I use my computer for is to visit forums, surf the web for information, and watch videos. I don't even watch that many videos anymore. I don't do anything technical.

Backing up is really complicated. I don't know if it's worth it. I could screw up the computer if something went wrong.

And yet, my files and settings are precious. computers are like shoes. You have to "break them in" for weeks or months before having your settings optimum for personal use.

So, what should I do?

well, you have a few options - you can manually back files up to CD/DVD/USB drive etc as and when you want to, or you can get some Backup software and schedule certain folders or the entire system to be backed up at a certain time. You could also take an image of your system in it's working state and then keep an updated copy of your documents etc on a USB stick.

Personally, I would use something like Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image to take a backup of the entire system and then use something like Microsoft's Synctoy and a USB stick to look after your documents as you update them

Buy usb memory stick or usb hard drive, plug in, go to start, run, ntbackup, follow instructions. It doesn't really get any simpler than that.

I don't have a job currently, so i can't afford one of those memory sticks.

I have my password manager file and plain text password manager log backed up on the A Drive. It's to store different passwords for different sites. I won't say the name of the program because maybe that's advertising.

I also have my documents backed up. I have text files with my specs and bandwidth statistics.

Well, it's a start.

I kind of wish i had my college and high school documents on disk. I used to delete everything when I was done. I used to also do that with my PS games.

What memory stick should i buy?
