Loved it when they passed events that happened in previous episodes (and one of the movies) like the tentacle Professor and Leela flying throught the windshield and onto the table. Futurama is always good at self-reference.

There! We solved the time paradox!
I couldn't stop laughing at that part and the very end where we see Bender burying the bodies under the bridge where Fry and Leia are having a nice moment together. I thought it was the best episode of the season yet. Good jokes with some touching moments.

So is it turning into a Family Guy clone or is it standing on its own?

Definitely standing on its own IMO. It's much more nerdy humour than FG, and it mixes in some kind of touching stuff too... FG is pretty much, well, FG.

I did like the reference to not wanting to sleep with his grandmother again. :p

There is no way in hell Futurama would turn into Family Guy. Futurama is so much better than Family Guy and I'm a Family Guy fan. It's a much smarter show. Futurama is my favorite tv show of all time though so I am slightly bias.

I really like it too, but it kind of caters to the "elitist" crowd. 4/5 people aren't going to get a lot of the science and history jokes that make it great. Many people that enjoy the show like it because of the "Haha...I understand something you don't therefore I'm more intelligent and better than you" factor.

My wife is one of them, and she hates the show. I have to explain a lot of the jokes to her, and by that time she doesn't care. She actually got mad the one time they were at a horse race and they had a "quantum finish", and the professor yelled ""No fair! You changed the outcome by measuring it!" I had to explain what the Heisenberg effect is, and she could only say "WHO THE HELL WOULD KNOW THAT??? HOW STUPID!!!"

So, as I said, the show is made for a specific crowd.

I thought this past week was the 2nd best episode of the new run, and only because the EyePhone episode was absolutely hilarious. Episodes like that are also kind of less frequent with Futurama - they don't really do much current events/topical humor. Actually, that's what gives the show good replay value. A year from now, I'll probably laugh a lot more at this past week's time travel episode than I would the EyePhone ep.

This new run is strong. The movies weren't great - I loved the first one, but the subsequent 3 were kind of weak. So I was pretty nervous about what was going to happen with this new season, but it had to just be an issue w/ format. I'm absolutely loving the new season.

Yeah. The first episodes were pretty meh and almost turned me off, but these later ones seem to be getting better.

I disagree - 80% of the humour doesnt require any prior knowledge, and even in that case the show is funny. But it's the extra 20% that makes the show one of the best.

Honestly though, it's not an "elitist" thing - if, like your wife, you're too stupid to understand some pretty well known principles, maybe you should read a few books then come back to the show.

i suggest you conduct a poll to find out just how many people know of the heisenberg uncertainty principle. you will find there are few and far between.

AT will most likely have a higher percentage since we're a tech community.

LOL- you're an elitist, and so comfortable with it you don't even realize you are one.

Elitism is not synonymous with intelligence. The sooner you realise that the sooner you can stop hating those of us on the right side of the bell curve.

I have to disagree with this. The science jokes aren't funny because some people can't get them, they're funny because they're good science jokes. Quantum finish is an excellent example of a science joke done well.

No, really, retards like you (and particularly your stupid wife) have tried to dilute the meaning of "elitism" to mean "people who are smarter than me having discussions I don't understand". That's not elitism, that's just having a basic level of education.

If your wife can't understand Futurama, tell her to go back to watching America's Next Top Model.

"retard" "stupid" tend to apply to people who learn very slowly. We've been trying to teach you not to make personal attacks, but it's not working. We, on the other hand, learn pretty quickly. And as soon as we conclude that you won't change your behavior here, we'll just permaban you. Till then, 2 weeks off to think about why you shouldn't make personal attacks here. -Admin DrPizza

I'll take good science jokes over random pop culture references any day like Family Guy.

I would say the show is made for nerds because nerds write it. Big Bang Theory is a good show too, but it's a show about nerds and written for anyone. I think anyone can appreciate Futurama to some extent because the jokes are flying around and they aren't required to understand the show and the show often has some real emotional weight to it like the last episode.

I'm not really agreeing with Gayner because he's a d-bag, but you can't really be mad or take offense to the education level of the jokes in the show. It would be like a 12 year old getting mad at Family Guy for 80's pop culture references. A higher education level and or deeper cultural background are required to get some jokes for Futurama or Family Guy. I think you're just mistaking a fan base that loves a show that has real nerd humor for elitism.
