Didn't Anand say in his preview that the cards were already in Asia, just not in the US/UK? That's not exactly the same as a paper launch...

Doesnt make it ok then.

They could then say "We arent paper launching since its available in Antartica! Just wait a month until it gets to the rest of the world"

Mainly we care because of the great faith that was put into NV and their Hard Launches. ATI was thourghly ridiculed for previewing the X1000 series and setting later launch dates that they mostly met.

I for one don't care for NVs "Mushroom" style of press releases and launches, (you know keep us in the dark, feed us on S... until they hard launch)

So I for one don't mind if NV wants to show us what this card can do and then release it later as long as they hit the date they set.

NVidia paper launches a low-end lukewarm product. Ok, i'll accept this. It still bugs me that TheInquirer feels that it is necessary to jump all over this and pass it off as news.

Its actually available in Asia now.

INQ said the the first wave of these cards were in the 6 digit area.
Edit-I think this card is going to be alot better than the X1300. Not only NV claims confidently it can play 1080p movies but also h.264. All this for around $99 or lower. Perfect for a HTPC.

Not unless they make it a real gfx card with real onboard mem. In the benches linked in the other thread it performs worse than a crippled 4 pipe 6600le from last gen, despite having a higher clockspeed.

i agree with a lot of the posters here. Who gives a crap if its just a value card? It isn't like people putting everything on hold for one of these. As long as they nail the midrange/high end cards on time enthusiasts could care less. Huge nerds like us don't anticipate putting the lowest card in a lineup in our comp anyways :p.

Well im talking about the video abilities. 1080p, h.264, and more enhanced pure video all for $99/ plus it would be really good if they made passively cooled ones. Hence me saying it will be great for HTPCs.

I wouldnt be interested in this card for performance anyway. Looks like its ALOT faster than a 6200TC though. Plus the 64bit really does cripple it. I wouldnt have minded if it had 128bit.

Most possibly there is going to be 7300GT with 128bit and rumoured 8 pipes. (According to VR-zone).

Nvidia shipped to Asia first due to the Chinese new year. Everybody spends megabucks for chinese new year as it is a huge gift giving holiday. So, Nvidia sent the cards where the most money will be made. No paper launch here folks. Only to the miffed Americans who feel they are more important than Asia and should see the cards on shelves sitting on American soil before all others. At least 100,000 cards were shipped initially.

Yup. Not a paper launch.
As if paper launching a 7300 would matter. I think most people were tired of ATIs continual offense in this area, not the fact they paper launched one card.
Better try next time ATI fanboys.

So now all you need to do to avoid being called a paper launch is ship a few cards to some small area of the world? Sorry, that's not good enough. The US is the largest market in the world by far. This is where the big boy's play. If you cannot have cards available for purchase in the US on your launch date, then it's as good as a paper launch as far as I'm concerned.

i think its the principle of it

afterall, ATi was criticized when the PLed the x1600

The X1600 cards were available over seas too, before in the US. Thus, ATi did make their deadline, in the same manner than NV did. Which is, not world wide, but only a select market.

Not to mention most cards sold are low level cards. Not highend cards.

Arent you canadian?
I love it when canadians try to ride on our coat tails.
Regardless, I am a true American, and while we are the big dogs with the largest market in the world.. we are not the only market and not always the most important market.. I humbly accept the launch in Asia.

Good job Nvidia on yet ANOTHER hard launch!

I already mentioned this in another thread. This is a very strange "paper" launch since I had a card in my hands today and could have bought it if I wanted to. Now, I live in Singapore and was in Sim Lim Square, not ordering from Newegg (I'm not native to Asia I'm actually Canadian, moved to the USA and have been in Singapore for about 1.5 years).

The stores here are packed right now. I would launch a value card in Asia right before a big spending season if I were at NVIDIA. So it shows up in the USA in 2-3 weeks later (the New Year does make it harder to get anything done - most people have time off and the cards are being made in Asia).

This is the new low end card, what's all the jaw flapping about?

I saw it for $158 Sing which is about $96 USA. Prices include 5% VAT. Card was an XFX 256 meg card (with marketing text saying it acts like 512 meg).

Not on shelves on launch day= paper launch.

And btw, if companies ship to the USA first and Asia later.. thats not a paper launch by your definition then?
All it needs to be is available in the world for anyone to order. I'm sure you could import a 7300 if you wanted.

Same couldnt be said for a lot of ATI products. ATI showed us what a paper launch is.
Nvidia showed us what a hard launch is.

it was there when they said it would be. that's release day. now, it would be a problem if it wasn't there on release day. but if it is there, who gives a rat's ass? only fanboys, scoring points in some imaginary war they're having.
