Back pain is suck!

You need to get to your regular Doc and get an MRI before you think about going to a Chiropractor. If you've got disk damage regular X-ray may not pick it up, didn't in my case, and the bone crusher could cripple you.

If you've got back pain that Vicodin can't take down I don't think an alignment is going to work.

I have a friend who had a similar situation and went to the Chiro. He never got better, finally went to the regular doc and ortho, the ortho tells him he was maybe a week away from a wheel chair for the rest of his life. Two blown disks that the Chiro's X-ray didn't pick up. He had surgery, has three fused verts, and walks with a decided limp.

Finding medical advice on forums = bad.

Chiropracters are pretty much shunned in the medical community because they are not actual doctors. The study of chiropractice is not a proven medical theory. It may help some but I've always had the personal belief that it isn't good for you. Problem is, once you start going, if you stop you're going to be in pain. There are other ways to make back pain go away, but you should see your regular doctor to find out what's best for you. In the mean time, Mineral Ice or something similar (i.e. Icy Hot or Ben Gay) should provide you with temporary relief. Also might try soaking in very warm water to release some tension.

I know all about back pains..I have 3 deteriorated disks..one in the tail-end and 2 in the neck area. I tried a Chiro and felt better for a while but eventually the pain came back. You must find a good chiro because some are just a step away from being complete charlataans..so tread lightly and wisely
Aqua's advice about exercise seems very sound. I was told years ago that my problem was not skeltal in nature but rather that the muscles in my lower back were not strong enough to support it properly. I started doing sit-ups and the pain subsided. Of course I stopped eventually and the pain came back. Try doing that but keep it up if it works for you.
Be very careful about those "Happy Pills" They can and will become addictive if you use them any length of time..not to mention that they'll constipate the hell out of you.....😉

Chiropractors can work for some minor skeletal problems, but anything beyond that is just bullsh|t. I am thoroughly convinced that people become addicted to chiropractic "medicine" and just MUST have an alignment to make them feel better. Disgusting.

I can agree to an extent on backpain. I overdid it one day in the weight room while doing "good mornings" (barbell over the shoulders, bend at the waist to parallel to floor, straighten up). For about a week, my lower back was so sore, I couldn't walk, sit, or lie down without serious pain. It really sucks to never be comfortable. 🙁

See a real doctor and do the full battery of tests. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

don't even start, I have back pain, not fun, went to chiro, some he could help, some he isn't touching. its my work setup, my back is killing me alot, I have too many computers in my life, but i do have a massage therapist friend, and i got a massage, then that night, less than an hour later,i was at my pc, and my back was killing me, need better, more ergonomically correct set up. my grandfather had a bad back all his life, now he's bedridden, and goes into the hospital every 4-5 months, to get a vertbra fused or somthing... very little meds help me... just gotta suffer i guess...

I think "good" chiropractors have their place in some situations. Drugs, surgery are not always the right answer and if relief is given and no damage done than it is preferable than the alternatives.

Medical advice here is a bad idea. Just get several opinions before making any decisions.

I didn't come here for advice per se. I came here to whine and complain. 😉 I started going to a chiropractor at around age 12 or 13. Now, my back cracks all the time and is always screwed up. lol I hurt it at work around 4 years ago and it hasn't been the same since. I will see my regular doctor next Monday. That was the soonest they could even squeeze me in. I've had an x-ray done on my back and I thinjk a cat scan. I think the cat scan is what revealed that the vertebral joints are beginning to deteriorate. That was done a few months ago. All in all....I'll live. But, I hate living in pain as do a lot of people. When I find out what is wrong if anything is different...I'll let ya know. 😉

I hurt my back friday at work and it still hurts like hell, right in the lower part on the left side near my ass. Man I never will think my dads faking when he complains of back pain ever again.

Ahhhh So nice to see someone else has finally had the "revelation". lol I'm not happy you got hurt though. It really sucks cuz it's a pain that doesn't want to go away. Serving it with eviction papers doesn't work. 😉 It's hard to be around people that just don't understand what you are going through and think you are either making it up or exaggerating(SP?) it a whole lot.

Speaking of make-you-feel-good-drugs ... when I had my wisdom teeth taken out the dentist prescribed one Valium pill for me. Whew! I'm glad my roommate drove me there, waited and drove me back home. Otherwise I would have ended up 4 hours away in Seattle, Washington.

Wow I was out of it. Vicadin is ok but Valium is the stuff to get. I heard you can order drugs online and have them shipped to you from Singapore, hmmn (j/k).

Pobrecita!

I've had a struggle with back pain and the only thing that has really helped me long term is improving my posture.

When you sit, when you stand, when you sleep... make sure you are doing it correctly!

My brother in law, who is a massage therapist (A real one... he works on athletes and famous people like LENNY KRAVITZ, so there!) taught me how to carry myself properly, but I am not sure where to find a specialist in such things.

I hope you feel better soon!

Gracias, amiga. 🙂 I do try to remember my posture, but I'm not always successful in doing it all the time. 😱 heehee

I'm sure there are a lot of things worse than what I have. I had a brain tumor and that was far worse IMO.
