Pfft, you are spoiled, that's two tiers above my old 8800 GTS 512. 😉

My condolences 🙂

Anyways, I bought the 4870 used two years ago as an upgrade to my aging 2900 pro. My two cards before that were the x800 pro and 6600GT. I think that clearly lands me in the not-spoiled camp 🙂

The 7870 will be my nicest and most-expensive card to date. It should last me quite a while at 1080p. Now I just need some games (besides Sleeping Dogs) that can make use of it. The 4870 didn't cut it in SC2, so that will be a nice boost at least.

Yeah, obviously your card is ripe for upgrade, I'm just giving you a hard time. 🙂

This card is cheaper than my 8800 - I have a record of ordering it in early 2008 for $290, but I'm pretty sure there was also a rebate involved so it was probably less than that. Waiting 4.5 years was plenty long for this upgrade!

Sleeping Dogs is very good, I was pleasantly surprised by that game.

That's good to hear. I had thoughts of selling it, but since it's a Christmas gift, it would be wrong of me to do that, right? 🙂

I know you were giving me a hard time. I'm actually surprised to see other people upgrading from older cards. We seem to be outspoken by the people saying, "Is it worth it to upgrade from a GTX 580 to GTX 680?"

Honestly I think we are the majority, the perception is just distorted by the collection of tech zealots on AT that have to have the latest $500+ video card every year. 🙂

I also upgraded to this from an 8800gt, although I did pick up a second used one to sli about 1.5 years ago which made waiting easier. Definitely a significant upgrade, you won't be disappointed!

Damn. If I get an Antec Solo II, basically I would have spent over $300 for this upgrade. Damn I have over 1k posts!

Honestly I would consider selling it. You might be able to sell it for what you bought it for. Upgrading to a new case just for a graphics card sounds like a hassle.

BTW, 560ti to 7870 is not a huge upgrade. Maybe 25%.

Newegg has the Corsair Carbide 300R for $70 AR, it looks like it would do the job just fine. I'm sure there are lots of others.

Great suggestion. Because the 300r does not have a middle drive cage, it will hold any video card on the market.

The Antec P280 should fit it (I'll find out for sure on Wednesday 🙂). It often goes on sale for $80 AR. Unless you need to upgrade your case anyways, it's not worth it IMO just for the video card. If that card had been $280, you definitely wouldn't have bought it.

Is there any way to modify your current case to make it fit?

These are in stock at newegg still. I just ordered mine!!

I cannot wait to see the difference. I will be upgrading from an MSI GeForce 8800 GTS 512. 🙂 🙂

Wish it still ha the sleeping dogs coupon, I watched some trailers for that game and it looks great!
