Here's a review of the factory OC'd version with the same cooler: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5691/...iew-his-7870-iceq-turbo-powercolor-pcs-hd7870

At this price, you can just skip the 7850 all together. They are at most $30 less with rebates, don't come with a new game, perform much lower at stock, and only make some of that up with overclocking.

Wish I had space for this beast in my HTPC...

...because this is the same IceQ cooler as on the 7950, it’s oversized relative to the 7870 and overhangs it some as a result. Besides making this a triple wide card, this cooler also makes the total length of the card around 11.25” long, so make sure you have plenty of space as this is a larger card than even the reference 7970.

Tempting, but I know absolutely nothing about HIS. How's the reliability/service for this company? I've never really heard of them before.

Also, any noise stats on this thing?

HIS has been around for years. I have an old x800xl from them that is still going strong.

It's incredibly cool and very quiet too: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5691/...w-his-7870-iceq-turbo-powercolor-pcs-hd7870/4

HIS has been around a long time. Owned a HIS x1900xt back in the day. Don't have any experience with their customer service, but I assume it's not too bad. They often have class-leading pricing, so that might be where they stand apart from the crowd.

never dealt with HIS customer service but I've owned their cards w/o issues. This is a very nice deal esp if you are in the market for the game...waiting for amazon to match!

Alright, I finally bit. My 8800 GTS 512 is long overdue for upgrade!

Also, after the $200 back from my new NFL credit card, this is going to cost me $20. :D

Nice! You're going to have 3x the performance of your old 8800 GTS. It's going to feel something like this: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/521?vs=548. Hope you have some new games to play. ;)

Amazing upgrade for the cost (even better with that credit card deal - first time I read that I saw "$20 back", but then I read it again!).

Just double-check the dimensions to make sure it will fit.

No problems there, I only use 1 card and my Antec Solo II has bunches of space in the bottom of the case since there are no additional drive bays there.

Just picked this up a few hours ago before seeing the thread. Was buying the OCZ 128 GB SSD ($80 in another thread) and came across the card deal as well. I was thinking of trying to get another couple of months out of my 8800GT SLI setup and waiting for some holiday deals but at this price it was an easy decision to retire them.

I'm rather conflicted. The price is great for a 7870 card, but 3-slots and 11.25" long!? Seems like a lot of real estate for knocking a few degrees off. Still tempted because I have a $20 GC and Chase Freedom that I can take advantage of.

This is what Ryan Smith said about the cooler in the review:

The real differentiating factor is the IceQ cooler; it’s simply leaps and bounds ahead of any other 7870 we’ve seen so far, though it gets there by using an extra slot in width. If for some reason you need its impressively effective cooling – say for overvolting in the future – then it’s a great candidate. Otherwise without with the prospect of overvolting it’s effectively limited by the AMD PCB and what Pitcairn can do on stock voltage, in which case its temperature advantage likely won’t translate into any material benefit. But then this is the advantage of the GPU partner system for consumers – a company like HIS can go out and create an overcooled card, even if it's for just a niche market.

I believe at this point voltage can be unlocked, which would make this cooler a serious asset, but otherwise, right now it's just the price that makes it appealing. Plus it's "overcooled"!

There is also a deal on an HIS 7970 IceQ X2 model. I am hoping HIS is a decent brand because I am about to order it.

I've been looking at that card myself. The cooler on it looks solid, which is perfect for keeping it loaded 24/7 99%. :p

Concerning HIS service, it contracts another company to do their RMA in the US. The company is called Lexy Pacific Corp. I experienced no fuss in requesting an RMA.

I did have to wait 5 weeks to get the card back do to the combination of living in Hawaii as well as the weird problem of the card. The card could play most games just fine (Metro 2033, Witcher 2, DX HR, Shogun 2) but would experience random crash with Heaven benchmark as well as Gamebryo type games (FO3 and Skyrim).
So I dont think the 5 weeks waiting period would be typical.

In any case, they sent me a new replacement card which works great, so I'm happy.

Thanks, in for 1. My old 4870 was starting to sound like a broken vacuum cleaner, plus I needed an upgrade for GW2.

Now posting from a 7870-powered PC! So far I've only played Crysis a few minutes as a test and it's butter-smooth. The card is also very quiet, so far I'm totally happy with it. The Sleeping Dogs coupon activates on Steam, which makes it even better than I realized.

The HIS IceQ 7870 next to my old 8800GTS 512 for scale. This is one bigass card!

The IceQ in my system. Yeah, that's a stock Intel fan on my i5 3450. CPUs are so awesome these days I don't even bother overclocking. I know, I'm an old fogey. :p
