In here, we need a forum specifically touted as.... Don't look/post or you'll get fired Forum!

ATOT already bans displyed pics in threads. So while you're at work why not just be smart and don't clink on links in threads???

Why must everyone be controlled because you want to browse the forums on someone else's dime and not get caught?

I agree with you, it's just that if there was a seperate forum on this, anyone clicking on it couldn't complain or bitch about a damn thing!

The problem with forum splits, and this is my main beef here, is that it kills the forum itself. Splitting up topics in OT creates less visability for all threads.

Activity took a huge nose dive after the last round of splits and I want all OT consolidated again.

I liked it when some of the car posts and shit were made into seperate sub forums. Sifting is much easier, and if you have a specific question, the likelihood of it getting answered is greatly increased.

But they get less visability, and many threads and questions go unanswered since people who know, but aren't in that forum don't see it.

If car people are in a car forum, no matter the traffic, your thread is more likely to get an honest answer....... Unlike if you post it here in OT, you'll get bulk/alternator jokes.

Yes, you'll get a lot of joke. The pricve paid for a lot of exposure. But you'll also more likely get an honest answer too.

Trying to stop the annoyances here have only slowed traffic. That's my point.

Anand has been pretty lenient as it is allowing forums like the garage, love and relationships, and OT. I mean first and foremost this is a Tech website, hence the name AnandTECH!

No one is looking for porn -- I don't know what gave you idea...

But to not be able to post a thread with an attractive, fully-clothed woman in it is downright ridiculous.

Alright, it's not porn, I'll grant you that. It serves the same gratuitous purpose though. Most of the babe threads I've been in it would quite a stretch to call the girls in the pictures fully clothed. Most of the time you're looking at chicks in bikinis. All I'm saying is there's no need for it here. It serves no purpose, has no value. The Garage forum, Love and Relationships, OT all give back in some way or form. Whether it's getting an answer about what's wrong with your car, getting some help with girl troubles, or asking a general question.

Babe threads serve no purpose other than fap material which is not what this site should be about. Pinups have their place. There's always TFNN if that doesn't work for you.

the ONLY forum that needed to be pulled outta OT was P&N, everything else should just be put back in

I probably know more about cars than 75% of the people in the car forums, but I don't visit. I'd gladly help people if they posted in OT but I can't be bothered with a separate car forum here.

Same for me with anything related to car electronics, home electronics or cellular. I can't say I have spent more than 5 minutes in any of those subforums.

I needa clearer definition of babe thread. I posted a funny commercial for some european company in some whacky language and it featured topless chicks skydiving. Then I deleted it b/c someone said it would be considered a babe thread. Now everyone is deprived of the humor of that commercial because we are self censoring out of fear of boobage.

In other news, I don't think we should have a separate babe forum. I've seen what happens when forums open up to pron. It brings in all sorts of people you don't want here. Let's just keep OT rated R with a liberal take on artistic nudity (it's only skin.) Showing a bloody clip from Saving Private Ryan should be more offensive than Shaving Ryan's Privates if we had any human decency.

irrc people were complaining about the YAGTs in OT and so Love & Relationship forum was born of that. then it was decided to make a thread in that forum dedicated to babes and studs. those threads were started and stickified by Derek.

other people made suggestions when Derek took over, as he asked for suggestions, and a car forum, health and fitness forum came from there.

A separate babe forum, with minimal if any moderation that was subscriber based
only would bring needed revenues to the forums, would allow people to post whatever babe
they want clothed or unclothed. Another benefit of a private pay to use forum of this type
is that members could have a separate password for it. Your CC bill would reflect a charge for anandtech
not for some sketchy website, you'd have to log in to even see the babe forum,so the site and your usage of
said forum would be private.. Anandtech gets $$, members get the right to blissfully post and discuss
all the T&A they'd like.. a win for both sides. If I were Anand subscription based service
is the way I would go.

Worst idea ever TBH.

Edit - I should probably explain that. I don't want babe threads to be allowed because I need my daily fix of T&A. I can get that at any one of millions of destinations around the internet. The problem with the banning of babe threads is that it is sucking the fun out of ATOT. People are so afraid of the banstick now that conversation has become more tame and more boring. If I needed T&A so badly that I'd be willing to pay for it, I'd go elsewhere. I'm not going to pay for off topic discussion.

Lol,there are people here would like to see it turned into one for free:)

What I'm saying is that subscription based helps defray the cost of running the place,
it provides a private area for those of the membership to post and discuss important issues
like the size of various women's arses and whether or not he'd do her with casiotech's penis or not in peace. It would take a load off the moderators and end countless arguments, protests and complaints over the issue.

You want the right to post and access specific,non-computing content? great, pay for it:)

So you'd be happy to pay to access OT, P&N, L&R, H&F and The Garage? No, this idea sucks horribly. All we're asking for is a sensible rule change, back to the way things used to be. No more forum splits, no crazy pay-to-post schemes, just the old rules back in place. Maybe if that happens these forums could become more than just a shadow of their former selves.

If I want content why shouldn't I pay for it? I seldom even click on advertiser banners here let alone shop thru them. Why should I or anybody else here leech bandwidth for years for free?

I've seen how the "Babe only" section of a large offtopic forum ultimately ends up.

It becomes a haven for jailbait pics that become more and more questionable in regards to the ages of the individuals in the pictures. Legal issues scare the admins and the section is killed for good.

They have tried a few different ways to contain this stuff but the result is the same each time.

So you think every website should be pay-to-access? How about you go ahead and start one up and let me know how it goes for you.

Because there's a million free forums and if you charge then some/most people will stay if the cost is nominal, others will just leave, and probably no one new will join because they'll just use a free forum. It's like the RIAA asking why people shouldn't pay $13 per cd. Because we don't have to. Market price right now for forum discussion is currently $0.00. Charging more than that is a bad business decision.
