Per Derek, there is one and only one babe thread. It's not in OT, it's in L&R. For the past umpteen months, the moderators have generally been just locking them. Recently, we've started issuing official warnings and vacations. At this time, it's felt that just about everyone who posts in here regularly knows that babe threads are against the rules for OT.

If you post a babe thread in OT, you may be warned, you may receive a vacation. If you participate in a babe thread in OT by posting more pictures, you may be warned, you may receive a vacation. We moderators try to address each violation individually. Our response will be based on the member's history as well as the nature of any pictures posted.

At the present time, the goal is to keep OT safer for those surfing from work during their breaks or lunch. There have been suggestions to make a sub-forum for babe threads, or to move the official babe thread (located in L&R) into OT. I don't foresee either happening in the immediate future.

"_________ is so hot! I'd hit it. " etc. types of threads are babe threads, regardless of whether there are pictures posted. Those types of comments have derailed several legitimate threads, resulting in them being closed. -DrPizza

It's odd because someone will post a very valid thread, then someone will post pictures, then it'll get derailed, and somehow the OP has his thread locked for something completely unrelated to what his original intention was.

For example, the ATOT effect thread for that snowboard chick. Sure, she's hot and all, but the point of the thread was for us to vote for *someone* for *something*. It's not like that request would have been appropriate for the babe thread.

That's one of the threads I had in mind that was derailed and turned into a babe thread. (The OP of that thread should also have had a NSFW in it.) HOWEVER, someone posting a thread saying "OMG, She's so hot. Don't post pictures so this doesn't turn into a babe thread" IS a babe thread. -DrPizza

How hot would a chick have to be for a thread to be classified as a babe thread? If dNor started a "Rosie O'Donnell is so hot with a mustache! I'd hit it all night long." thread, would that be enough even though the thought would be repulsive to just about anyone else? Because that man would hit anything? Just saying. 😛
 
can we please just move the babe thread here or something? who the hell ventures into L&R anyway?

Whatever, I don't come to AT for babe threads, there are many many sites on the web for that subject.
 
I think the definition of a babe thread has become a little too broad, simply posting a picture of a female somehow qualifies it as a babe thread. If it's 'omg check out this half naked chick in a thong' then I understand but completely legit threads have been locked because someone posts a pic of their grandmom. If the point of the thread is to show off a hot chick then I understand keeping that in one place, but I think things the mods have been a little too aggressive with the ban stick and masterlock lately.

Just my thoughts...

That blows...

I don't want to go to L&R and almost never post there. Just as I almost never post in the consumer electronics forums either...and I have a lot to offer but it's a waste of time because nobody ever posts there. This is OT, everything not related to computer operating systems, hardware or politics and news should be here IMO. I preferred it that way because there were so many wide ranging topics and so many people posting here. Hell, I submit a post in digital and video cameras and I might get 10 views in a day. In OT I'd get 10 times that in an hour easily...or at least I would have in the past.

Biggest mistake ever was splitting up the forums IMO.

I'd rather not have "hunk" links in the "babe" thread, but, still, just expressing my

Obviously not, but I'm hoping you understand my point. Lately it seems like any random thread that at some point contains a link to a picture of a female is being locked. There is a difference between a "babe thread" and a "thread containing a pic of a babe" and lately the latter is getting unnecessarily locked.
