You know, how come it's taken this long for e-readers to get this feature? Seems like something that should have been included from the start, no?

E-readers are likely seeing extreme pressure tablets. A tablet can do a lot more, an e-ink reader can basically only read books. In daylight. I definitely don't want to see e-ink readers go away because they blow away any tablet for reading.

Today's the day. Looks like it's live on the website, but all the stores are still marked as OOS. Stores might not be getting it until later possibly?

Didn't swing by B&N today. :( Was going to go by this weekend.

I did. Guy at the Nook section seem very confused I was expecting it to be there. God only knows when it'll actually be in stores, but it should be good for online orders. Not sure why there seems to be such a disconnect, and why it's not being communicated well.

Thats not a good sign from B&N. They've been pretty good about support and answering questions of their nook models in stores.

Temporarily Out of Stock. This item will be available on May 22, 2012

*le sigh*

Not that Amazon is anywhere close with theirs, but pushing the release back week after week is closing B&N's monopoly on such a device. Getting there first has been one of their big strengths lately IMO, so I'd hate to see a sloppy release from them.

Is it true that placing an aftermarket screen protector on this new, lighted model will screw with the lighting or the screen?

It's a touch screen. I'd rather have one on there.

Don't use a pocket knife as the touch input. :p Seriously, they're far more resilient than an LCD and you won't be touching it as much as you would a phone or tablet.

Well, ok then. I'll take your word for it. I'd still like to hear from someone though that actually has one and has tried placing a screen protector on it. I still have two (that will fit this Nook) that came in a multi-pack set from M-Edge.

Do screen protectors affect the light?

It's not out yet. Nobody could know that.

Guess they're having stock issues then.

Either way, have you gone into the store to use one? It's the same screen as the regular eink one, which is not really something that can scratch. It's not glossy or glass, so I'm not sure why a screen protector would ever be useful. Would cause more harm than good IMO.

I played with one briefly last week in B&N while on vacation. Nice, but hard to tell what it will look like in a darkened room when you are holding it in a highly lit store. The problem they're having now is too many models. I talked briefly with a salesperson, but soon lost interest when even he could not cut to the chase on the differences.

There's two e-ink, two LCD models. Clear differences. If its confusing, buy an iPad. :p

Nook Color = Color screen, single core CPU, 512MB of RAM.
Nook Tablet = Color screen, dual core CPU, 1GB of RAM. Bigger brother of Nook Color. Similar feature sets with Nook Tablet running smoother and holding more data.

Nook Simple Touch = B&W e-ink, touch enabled.
Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight = Identical to Simple Touch in features and capabilities, has LED to illuminate the screen.

Questions?

LOL. You should have been in the story that day; they probably would have hired you on the spot.

Maybe you had a newbie clerk? :p There's probably a wide variance, but the sales people at the Goodyear AZ B&N store have always been really good.

I keep going back and they haven't even been able to fulfill their pre-orders yet. This is both in stores around me now in Mishawaka, IN and back home around Thornton, CO. Let us know if you actually got one though.

Date on main page on B&N has also been pushed back to the 30th.

When I check my local store by searching by zip code it says "in stock", but when I call they said that's just for the pre-orders. The site doesn't differentiate that stock is for pre-orders or extra for the store.

I was able to score the last one at my local store. The light's a tad uneven, but still a well integrated feature and great for me. Much better than clip on lights and such. This is exactly what the e-readers should have been from the start.

Yep.

I wish mine was a little bigger, and had better contrast. Mine got stuck on a page, so I had to restart it. I have no idea if that will be a regular thing, or a one off.

I've had every nook except the tablet and have never seen this, so I would think it'll be rare. But if you see it often I would think it might be defective. Just an FYI. Are you turning with buttons or touch screen?

Normally I use the screen, but once it sticks, nothing works at all - I have to reboot.

Odd. What format are you using when this happens: epubs, pdf, etc? I've only ever used epubs and haven't ever experienced a lockup, but I don't know how any of the formats work.
