Haha, I was thinking of buying a nook 2 weeks ago. Good thing I didn't. I think I'll wait for the wifi version

Don't have very long to wait, as they are shipping this week. You can purchase them from nook.com now, fairly sure they'll be for sale at BB within a week as well.

I'm a little disappointed in the improvements of 1.4, I don't consider access to AT&T wifi hotspots a huge deal. I can connect a wifi hotpot pretty easily on my own. Jumping to specific page numbers is nice, but I was crossing my fingers for folder sort, ala Kindle Collections. Maybe 1.5?

Edit - Curious to see how the 199 price cut affects the price of the Kindle and Kobo devices. Kobo's sole claim was its cheap price, and that just got taken away by the technically superior nook WiFi.
 
Well, nook was receiving flak about not having a Go To Page, now it does with 1.4. 🙂

I also want to wait to see review just to make sure its exactly like the original nook only without 3G. Hopefully they didn't take out any feature.

Edit: I currently have a PRS-700 (Sony Reader) and I use calibre for library management, so folders really isn't too big of an issue for me. :]

I just read on Engadget that since B&N dropped the price of the Nook, Amazon dropped the Kindle's price down to $189.


Now, guess who ordered a Kindle a mere 18 hours ago! That's right, me!

Boggles my mind how it didn't have this from launch. Dunno why it was left out, couldn't be because they forgot. And it couldn't have been that hard to implement. The WiFi will work at B&N stores and my city has free WiFi so I'll definitely be jumping on the $149 version shortly.
 
I can see why someone would want to save money by purchasing the wifi only version. Its fairly easy to purchase books from home on your personal WiFi, or from any number of hotspots. Not too difficult to plan a little bit.

What of the Kobo now? The 150 dollar Nook WiFi effectively kills it.
 
Boy, at $149 and with the new firmware, I'd probably buy one of these, if I didn't have a large stack of physical books on my bookshelf to read.

Yeah I have to agree... from a homebrew standpoint it looks fairly useless right now. However, with the price drop and wifi only model I bet there will be a decent surge in users so there may be some stuff popping up sooner rather than later.
 
I purchased the wifi nook today. I figure 150 dollars is a solid price for it. I don't need 3g have plenty of access to wifi at home work and friends houses. I am excited have not read much last few years. Should be nice to take out to the lake and read.
 
Yeah, I want a reader badly, but now I can't decide if I want the $150 Nook or the Kindle 2. I couldn't care less about 3G support, not when there's free WiFi everywhere.

If you don't care for 3G support then it seems a pretty obvious choice to me. Nook is $40 cheaper for the same size screen and as a bookstore B&N seems to offer more books to buy as well as offering free ones as well.
