Finally! SV_PURE has been released officially by Valve for Counter-Strike:Source!
Let me give you some history... Basically, before the June 12th update, all of the textures for maps, models, weapons, etc. for CS:S are editable. You can simply put your custom texture in your cstrike\materials folder and it will be used in-game. Now, this was fine for custom weapons, even custom player models, but you can even do this for all the level textures. Naturally, people starting using "custom textures" for all the textures in a level with a 50% transparency on them --- instant wallhack. Not only this, but it's not considered an exploit by VAC (since it doesn't edit the .EXE or .DLL files), so no one is banned for this type of wallhack.
See a video of this type of wallhack here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGzQ4rUXtdk
But no more! Valve has FINALLY released a new server setting called sv_pure, which allows servers to specify whether custom textures are allowed at all. You allow no custom textures/models, or allow only specific textures to be changed. AND, if you happen to have custom textures anyways, and join a server with sv_pure enabled, it will automatically use the default textures... so you don't have to change anything!
This is a fantastic update, since now the vast majority of the various wall hacks out there will no longer work. Thank you Valve! This has been a long time coming...
