Wal-Mart!

Well, I got in on the Half-Life 2 preorder a few months ago when it was only $59 (twenty bucks cheaper). I received the package today. It was boxed in a much larger box with no peanuts or airbags to lessen the wear and tear of the box. To no ones surprise the box was basically mangled, dented and messed up pretty badly. But not badly enough that I thought there would be a problem with the game itself, or any other contents. So I opened it, and then shortly after I noticed the bottom security tape had been cut and then resealed with regular tape. This did seem like a problem, as I don't know if anyone opened it for the CD-Key or what. So I called a few local Wal-Marts and none had the Collector's Edition in stock.

I then called the number given on the shipping receipt and was told that all I needed to do was take it to a local Wal-Mart and get them to exchange it, they could take it back and order another to be sent out to my address. So I then took a little trip to the local Supercenter and that's where the problems started...

I went to a local Wal-Mart Supercenter and spoke to one of the Customer Service people, he then called a manager as he knew nothing about it. Then Tammy showed up, the CS manager (as far as I can tell) and she wouldn't allow it. She then called a higher manager named Neil and he said that he couldn't do it. Tammy recommended I call 1-800-WALMART. Which I did from the pay phone ten feet away (calling 1-800 is free, there was no way I was paying to call). They told me the same thing, and that all I needed to do was ask them to call the number and have it settled.

So I walked the ten feet back to the desk (Tammy had left by this time) and again had Jeff (the only CSR there at the time) call down Neil (the highest manager in charge, I assume). He then got ahold of him on the phone, and Neil said the same thing (I guess). I then told Jeff that I wanted to speak directly to Neil. He refrused, and would not get ahold of him at my request. So I then told Jeff that I could stand there all day, he then told me something to the extent that I could if I wanted.

After a few seconds, I asked Jeff what Neil's last name was (that's it, no harsh tone or anything), he then told me that he would call Security if he had to. Seeing as I wasn't getting any help from him, I told him to do so. Soon after a securtiy guy showed up and talked to Jeff for a few seconds. He then paced around me for a little, and then approached me. He asked what the problem was, and I told him and that all I wanted to do was speak to the highest level manager on duty at the time.

Let me remind everyone, at NO point did I raise my voice. I may have seemed abrasive, but I never yelled or screamed or seemed out of control. I'm not a violent guy, but hate when people try to screw with me.

He then told me that Neil would be down in a few seconds. Well, as time went by I realized no one was coming. I then told the security guy that if Neil wasn't coming I may as well leave. He recommened that I do that. So I wished everyone a "Fuck You" and left.

When I got home I called 1-800-WALMART again, and wanted to speak to a manager. The rep. said that she'd need to know the problem before she could do that. About half way threw explaining she hung up the phone.

So I called back again, at 7:41 PM. This time I got Nicole. I asked to speak to a manager, and she wanted to know if there was anything she could do to help. So I took a leap of faith on this girl, and she actually gave half a crap. She listened to my problem and agreed that I was improperly dealt with. She took down all the info, and took my phone number. And would pass the info on to a supervisor who would call me back within 24 hours.

Yeah, plan on taking this as far as I can without going too far out of my way. This service was horrible. And as far as I know, Neil is just a figment of their immagination as I never got a chance to see him.

I never thought I'd actually get thrown out of a store, it's such and absurd thing if you knew me.

the chance you will hear from them probably is close to 0.

how about a chargeback on your credit card? that doesn't hurt to try. iirc, they like to keep you 100% satisfied.

also, try to file a complaint on www.planetfeedback.com
I got good results from them. I filed two complaints against tmo and cablevision. tmo complaint was great. they even assign a senior level customer service to help to solving the problem. :D

Wow... if they did that to me I would have called the police for denial of service. That is rediculous that they would avoid you like that and even go to the extent of calling security... wtf.

This is tyical Walmart "customer service".

Save a dollar at Walmart and pray you don't need help or have a problem.

I remember I borrowed a truck and bought a crib there. It was the last one they had in stock and it had been taped back up. The nice Bosnian lady who could barely speak English told me that it had been inspected.

I take it and get it home and go to set it up, and it is beyond destroyed. I then run to Babies R' Us and get a crib as I have a baby who needs to have one.

I then return the broken crib to Walmart when I am able to borrow a truck again. Their return period is 90 days with receipt and I am well within that.

I proceed to get chewed out by the customer service manager because I did not return it right away.

I was about two seconds away from telling her to go F@ck herself, but I didn't.

It is only going to get worse as they cause more businesses to go away.

Wal-mart managment does suck. About a year ago i One of the caret monkey's lost control of a cart and it hit my car. The wal-mart manager really didnt care and pretty much said so. When i got home i called that number and talked to them. They then called the local wal-mart and talked to the guy. He called me back and threatened to kick my ass if he seen me again. I then called them back and explained what he said. They said not to worry about it he wouldnt do that and they would talk to him. He of course denied everything. Bah!

Before this happened he was caught with a 16 year old girl having sex in the store. But since his wife is like a regional manager nothing happened.

heh So every time i see him in walmart i ask if he has knocked up any pre-teens yet. heh

I was actually thinking of leaving Meijer's and going to Wal-Mart (from all the good things I've heard). This changed that pretty quickly. At my Meijer's, my store director will actually go out and help push carts, or sweep the floor. He's one of the nicest guys in management. Total Night and Day. I have the day off tomorrow, so I maybe take another trip to Wal-Mart tomorrow.

I once bought peanut butter stuffed pretzels at Wal-Mart. I believe they were called "Sam's Choice."

I would never buy anything like software or any electronics from Wal-Mart, including online. If Wal-Mart has the lowest price, I go to Circuit City and have them do a 110% price match. :D

Yay Meijer's!!!!

Meijer's is our choice over Walmart. I've bought something at Walmart maybe 3 or 4 times the last couple of years. At least Meijer's is localish to us (in Michigan).

Yeah, I work at the Meijer's in Englewood (Dayton, OH).

The thing that really gets me, is that Tammy wouldn't even call 1-800-WALMART (the number she told me to call). I asked her three or four times. If I couldn't do the exchange like I was told twice over the phone, then what did I have to do. If she had done that, I wouldn't have been so disaapointed.

Well, it's true that Walmart does suck.

However opened software is a very tricky issue and I bet they get tons of people trying to screw them over.

He wanted to exchange it for another one, which is OK according to Wal-Marts return policy for games, cds, and any other media.

i got fired from walmart when i was 17

i worked electronics...some guy bought 9 sets of silk sheets (sells for over 200 bucks)
they were labeled as 9 dollars, and were ringing up at 9 dollars

i called the manager, but he didn't want to come out - he told me to ring them up as they were labeled

a few days later, the guy returned them and got the FULL PRICE for every single one of them.
I got fired for selling them

at the time i didn't care, i had borrowed over 200 CDs from the electronics department and was going to quit soon anyways

I was told they couldn't do anything about it. It was a debit card (didn't get approved for a credit card). They said that if I got my package, there isn't anything they can do, I'd need to go through the company I bought it from.

Troytime:
I had one guy (when I worked in the Garden Center) come in with about eight completely empty bags of White Marble Chips. He said they were messed up when he bought them and he wanted to Even Exchange them. I directed him to customer service. A few minutes later they approved the Even Exchange enough though he didn't bring anything back other than eight empty bags. The one thing I love is our return policy, but I hate when people exploit it.

Another return story is someone returned a $1600 riding mower seven months after they bought it. They bought it back in April and then brought it back seven months later and got their full money back. Nothing wrong with the mower, just wanted to return it. Our return policy is 90 days...
