Both at fault here. You really need to look at it from Walmart's perspective. You could have pirated the game from the looks of it. Walmart.com is a different company than walmart even though they have the same name, etc. 1-800-Walmart will get something done for you at the store level and cost the store money.

What you should have done is exchange it with walmart.com or told the store that the game was defective and that you did not have a receipt but would like to exchange it for the same game.

The customer service manager's suck most of the time and they have no clue as to what is going on. What did the nametag say of the highest up manager as far as position. Feel free to PM me if you want some help. I've worked for the company for 4 years.

Did you actually try to install the game and see if it'd work or not or did you just assume it was broken/stolen/etc?

I'd install it and see if you get rejected for improper code and then call the game maker and tell them the story and see what happens.

No. You are wrong. WalFart must assume every customer is telling them the truth. And in this case I believe TheMessiah13 is being truthful.

Walmart.com is a different company than walmart even though they have the same name, etc. 1-800-Walmart will get something done for you at the store level and cost the store money.

That's not Messiahs problem. He stated that he called 1-800-WalFart first and WAS DIRECTED BY THEM TO RETURN IT AT A LOCAL WALFART STORE! So your point is irrelevant

What you should have done is exchange it with walmart.com or told the store that the game was defective and that you did not have a receipt but would like to exchange it for the same game.

What he should have done?!?!?! Why should he inconvience himself like that? Especially after 1-800-WalFart TOLD HIM TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL STORE!!! As for suggesting he lie and state it was defective or had no reciept....well I wonder if the WalFart you work for would enjoy hearing about you instructing others in how to work their system. Finally, he stated in his original post that ALL HE WANTED TO DO was take an open game that WalFart sold him as new and exchange it for the exact thing he should have gotten in the first place! He said he called around and found no WalFarts had the Collectors Edition he originally ordered, so he was well within his rights to demand a full refund if he wanted one.

The customer service manager's suck most of the time and they have no clue as to what is going on.

Again, not Messiah's fault and another irrelevant point from you.

What did the nametag say of the highest up manager as far as position. Feel free to PM me if you want some help. I've worked for the company for 4 years.

Why would he get advice from someone who works for them, especially after you've already told him to lie once?!?!?

Clearly WalFart fvcked him here. They created the problem in the first place by selling him an opened product as new. I know for fact that they do this as it has happened to me several times in the past. Walmart should be taking every step possible to fix this, but they probably won't since they only see him as a dollar (or threat to loose one at this point) and don't look at him as a customer.

Personally, I will NEVER use another WaFart again, even if my life depended on it. I encourage others to do the same!

my question is this ...

is Half Life 2 NORMALLY 80$!?!? cause you said you saved $20 and still paid $60. that is ridiculous for a game!!!

PS, and that sucks about walmart, take them as far as possible w/out too much of a hassle.

Wal-Mart!

Well, I got in on the Half-Life 2 preorder a few months ago when it was only $59 (twenty bucks cheaper). I received the package today. It was boxed in a much larger box with no peanuts or airbags to lessen the wear and tear of the box. To no ones surprise the box was basically mangled, dented and messed up pretty badly. But not badly enough that I thought there would be a problem with the game itself, or any other contents. So I opened it, and then shortly after I noticed the bottom security tape had been cut and then resealed with regular tape. This did seem like a problem, as I don't know if anyone opened it for the CD-Key or what. So I called a few local Wal-Marts and none had the Collector's Edition in stock.

I then called the number given on the shipping receipt and was told that all I needed to do was take it to a local Wal-Mart and get them to exchange it, they could take it back and order another to be sent out to my address. So I then took a little trip to the local Supercenter and that's where the problems started...

I went to a local Wal-Mart Supercenter and spoke to one of the Customer Service people, he then called a manager as he knew nothing about it. Then Tammy showed up, the CS manager (as far as I can tell) and she wouldn't allow it. She then called a higher manager named Neil and he said that he couldn't do it. Tammy recommended I call 1-800-WALMART. Which I did from the pay phone ten feet away (calling 1-800 is free, there was no way I was paying to call). They told me the same thing, and that all I needed to do was ask them to call the number and have it settled.

So I walked the ten feet back to the desk (Tammy had left by this time) and again had Jeff (the only CSR there at the time) call down Neil (the highest manager in charge, I assume). He then got ahold of him on the phone, and Neil said the same thing (I guess). I then told Jeff that I wanted to speak directly to Neil. He refrused, and would not get ahold of him at my request. So I then told Jeff that I could stand there all day, he then told me something to the extent that I could if I wanted.

After a few seconds, I asked Jeff what Neil's last name was (that's it, no harsh tone or anything), he then told me that he would call Security if he had to. Seeing as I wasn't getting any help from him, I told him to do so. Soon after a securtiy guy showed up and talked to Jeff for a few seconds. He then paced around me for a little, and then approached me. He asked what the problem was, and I told him and that all I wanted to do was speak to the highest level manager on duty at the time.

Let me remind everyone, at NO point did I raise my voice. I may have seemed abrasive, but I never yelled or screamed or seemed out of control. I'm not a violent guy, but hate when people try to screw with me.

He then told me that Neil would be down in a few seconds. Well, as time went by I realized no one was coming. I then told the security guy that if Neil wasn't coming I may as well leave. He recommened that I do that. So I wished everyone a "Fuck You" and left.

When I got home I called 1-800-WALMART again, and wanted to speak to a manager. The rep. said that she'd need to know the problem before she could do that. About half way threw explaining she hung up the phone.

So I called back again, at 7:41 PM. This time I got Nicole. I asked to speak to a manager, and she wanted to know if there was anything she could do to help. So I took a leap of faith on this girl, and she actually gave half a crap. She listened to my problem and agreed that I was improperly dealt with. She took down all the info, and took my phone number. And would pass the info on to a supervisor who would call me back within 24 hours.

did you even bother to test this before you went off on a tangent?
test the god forsaken CD key before you throw a tanturm and cry conspiracy theory...

now that being said.. yes what they told you was wrong and shoulda been done differently..

CPA, The word of the day is c ... i ... v ... i ... l matter. You are right, if bad service was a crime 50% of the American population would be incarcerated, most likely receiving Life With Parole.

No. I didn't know what if anything had been done with the game that had been previously opened, and it didn't matter.

Would you have tried to return a game if it arrived opened? Yes. And that's what I attempted to do, return it. It wasn't until I got treated like horse crap did I feel the need to complain about anything. If I'm not allow to return opened software, why is someone I've never met allowed to open my software?

Oh, and it was the Collector's Edition. I went with that was because it's on a disc (don't like the idea of downloading the game and not having a hard copy). And I paid the extra money for Half-Life Source (I've never beaten the original Half-Life).

amdskip:
Yeah, I can see it from their point of view too. Tammy couldn't have done something that wasn't in their policy. But she told me to call 1-800-WALMART to find out how to fix the situation, after doing so right there Tammy refused to listen to what they told me. And she wouldn't bother to call them herself. If it wasn't possible to do the return like I was told twice, then what steps did I have to take. She knew (I assume) some of the in's-and-out's of what Wal-Mart could do, and would be more trained to deal with 1-800-WALMART in getting the neccessary steps to take.

Tammy and Jeff also refused to attempt to get Neil down at my request, because he refused to come down earlier. I didn't understand this at all, how he wouldn't even bother to come down. And how they wouldn't bother to call him again...

I have since installed the game, and the CD-Key was secure. I wasn't aware Half-Life 2 was different than most other games in that the CD-Key is tied to an account name on Steam. I thought it might be like Diablo 2 where if someone had my CD-Key they could prevent me from playing online.

But with that said, I am still going to complain to whoever I can. Their complete lack of concern for me resolving my problem was atrocious.

EDIT:
I still haven't gotten that phone call from the Supervisor.
