Yeah. I have not read everything, but from the stuff I have read he only is that powerful with the gauntlet. Otherwise he seems to have a reasonable amount of power compared to the rest of the galactic dudes he's surrounded by.

Un-gauntleted Thanos is nearly invincible. Of course, writers will always find some unconvincing way to bring him down to propel a storyline.

My understanding is that Surfer has been leveled up in recent years, and Thanos down a bit. I don't know where I read it, but Surfer was testing his new powers and blew up a planet. Thanos could probably take that blast, but Surfer can create black holes. Thanos once survived a black hole though. lol The one thing about Silver Surfer though is that by nature he's not a killer, so I don't think he gives his all in a fight. And I did say probably. Without a recent comic with updated stats for each I wouldn't really argue it one way or the other.

EDIT: Just looking at the stats, Thanos is rated at 7 for fighting, 6 for speed, and 7 for strength. Surfer is 5, 7 and 6. Both have 7's in durability and energy. Thanos also has intelligence at 7, where as Surfer is 4. So Thanos should be able to win more times than lose, but the stats are somewhat misleading. They have Hulk as having the same speed rating as the Surfer, but thats just not true.

The Thanos character has to be "rebooted" so that it shows that he can be tactically defeated without "miracles".

Just a guess.
Probably Tony Stark jumpstarting Ultron (without thinking of the consequences) that could possibly destroy the world/eradicating humanity.
Same with the Super-Soldier serum and Gamma ray experiments in the past done by his father Howard Stark.

What about it? Magneto fucks up Wolverine pretty much every time. Even ripped the adamantium out of him once. (YMMV depending on which comics/continuity, etc.)
 
Marvel ability stars are practically useless. Although hulk is now a low level speedster (spiderman grade), Surfer is light speed.
Also, thanos has tooled surfer so many times, they aren't in the same league (surfer is herald level, un amped thanos is roughly skyfather level)
PG or HOTU thanos is basically top tier (higher than phoenix force, universe-ender.

I've only heard one review so far, and it was too much action/not as good as 1. Sounds like a personal taste kinda thing and it should be collecting buckets of $$$$$.
