gah, thanks for the spoiler alert...

Anyway...

Is it even worth it to see this movie in a theater without 3D, or is the only way to go IMAX.

Let's just start with this.

A. Didn't destroy anything? Those forests were destroyed. The indegenous species HOME was destroyed. What do you mean didn't destroy anything? Are you really that stupid? As for what we wanted... THAT DOESN'T FUCKING MATTER. You don't always get what you want, dumbshit. IT ISN'T OURS TO TAKE. ITS NOT OUR PLANET. ITS NOT OUR HOME. ITS NOT OUR FOREST. ITS NOT OUR RESOURCES, NONE OF IT IS OURS. We were simply guests there, unwanted guests. We had absolutely NO RIGHT to take ANYTHING of theirs without permission. Period. End of story. You can try to justify this however the fuck you want, but it was their planet, not ours.

B. We weren't 'temporarily' living on another planet. We were ravaging another planet because we had already done so to ours. We were stealing their resources, destroying their home and cutting down their heritage/culture. What don't you understand about that? Did you even watch the fucking movie? Remember the tentacle things that came out of their hair and connected to EVERYTHING in that world? It's called their ancestors/culture/heritage. It is more than just a couple of sticks and stones to them... and the humans were destroying it. That's the entire point of the movie dumbfuck.

C. So if you walk into someones house in the middle of the night and they pull out a shotgun, you can shoot them? You just wanted his food. You weren't going to kill him.... but as far as he knews you were going to. It wasn't any of your business being there. He was just defending his home.

D. Just because they aren't using it doesn't mean it isn't theirs. Are you really that thickheaded man? There is a tree in my backyard I don't really use. It just sits there. Doesn't mean you can come fucking take it cause I don't use it. Again, you're a dumbass.

I think I see the problem here. You think you are more important than everyone else. You think the US Gov. can do no wrong and whatever they want to do, they have the right to do. They are better than everyone? Right? WRONG. You're one of the reasons a lot of this world hates the US. You're an egotistical self-righteous half-brained fucknut. And you're being called that by a god damn conservative. I only wonder what the liberals think of you.

You only responded to half of my post: does that mean you agree with the other stuff that I said and admit you were wrong in the first place? If so: cool.

A. This was not talking about destroying trees. Not at all and now you are calling me out for that. Go back to your first A and you will see we were talking about destroying the planet. I responded to that. If you are going to argue, don't bring up random stuff. We were talking about destroying the planet. I said we were not destroying the planet. You said we destroyed trees. That's great, but we aren't talking about that. The planet is fine and will always be fine. Now stop changing what I am saying.

You basically didn't respond to ANYTHING I said. You responded about destroying trees? When did I say anything about destroying trees? You DIDNT respond to collecting a mineral that will save 10,000,000,000 human lives THAT THE NATIVE PEOPLE WERE NOT USING. You also did not respond to the fact that about 95% of their land was unoccupied and they could have moved no problem (LIKE THEY WILL NOW).

About your capitalized portion: I don't give a fuck if it is "their" stuff or not. They (ALIENS) can move for a few months if that means we will save 10 THOUSAND MILLION human lives. Yes they can. They will get over it, if they will even notice in the first place. I would happily move from my house to another one for a few years to save ONE life.
To prove this point: THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO MOVE ANYWAY. Their tree got destroyed, so they are obviously going to live somewhere else now. Why was that so difficult?

B. You make a lot of sense. Humans LOVE destroying planets. We just go there and DESTROY THEM YEA because we find it fun. We destroyed ours and that got us so excited that we just wanted to go and destroy others. RAAAAAWR!!!! DESTROY PLANETS!!
No. We did not go to "ravage" their planet because we had ravaged ours. We went to their planet to mine small portions to keep our planet alive.
Did you watch the movie? They showed the 3D map of the mineral deposits. The mineral was not everywhere. We had ZERO use for the other areas. Hell, we only wanted one area that contained a lot. We surely would leave that planet after ours was satisfied.

C. Who walked into whos home? If I walk into someone's neighborhood and am walking on the sidewalk, I would be mad if they shot me. And yes, I would shoot back if I could.
If someone had a cure to cancer sitting in their basement that they were not using, they did not even know they had it and had no use for it, then YES I would ask them for it. I would ask them to let me into their house to get it. And if I told them repeatedly for over 3 months that I was coming into the house to get it and they shot at me, I would shoot back yes. I am not a greedy motherfucker. If you look at that cancer-cure thread with that poll asking what people would do if they found a cure, you will find that much of this forum would agree with me, too.

D. If you have a tree in your backyard that you have never looked at once or benefited from once in your life and that will save 10,000,000,000 human lives I will go take it. Sorry, bro. You are completely unreasonable to think that is wrong. You can plant a new fucking tree.
ALSO, you are a human. If a dog has the cure to cancer in its dog-house, you better believe I will go into that dog house to get it (and ask him nicely, etc, but that isn't even necessary).

You are completely wrong with your last statement. I already said the government can be wrong and I gave the proper procedure to deal with that. I guess that makes everything else you say wrong considering you put it in an A=B B=C C=D format, but I do not equal B so therefore not necessarily D either.
Humans are better than other animals, too.

Oh and you forgot to reply to over half of what I said in case you forgot.

Oh and how does all of this relate to MUTINY? The purpose of this thread?

ProfJohn, I really liked your conclusion that I am an idiot or a troll. You supported it with some pretty concrete facts and I really don't see how anyone could not follow your logic! Thanks for the contribution.

This is going to sound pretty harsh, but I don't care...

Humans had run their course. 10 billion is too much. There was no green left on our own planet. We caused our energy crises by being retarded, greedy, immoral bastards. The human race was not going to collectively change in time for things to be saved, and if they had successfully obtained what they wanted on that planet, there's no way in hell it would just stop there. That is the reality. You can sugar-coat it and say we would have peacefully left them alone after we solved the energy crises, but that is not true. You can't change the greedy and power-hungry nature of the majority of humans. It had accumulated over many, many, many years. It was time for them to face what they had done to themselves, and for this new planet to begin. This is the natural way of things. Species die out, and humans were probably past their time, anyway. Perhaps in time that planet would come to the same fate, but at that point in they were healthier, and nurturing to their home. They deserved their land and home untouched, whereas the humans didn't deserve a single piece of it. True facts. You reap what you sow.

And by the way... to equate the aliens to dolphins is truly ignorant. They were as smart as tribes throughout the world, and had as much a right to life as humans. I pity anyone who believes that just because certain beings aren't as advanced in certain areas, they are any less deserving or intelligent as humans. They're probably a lot smarter than certain *cough* people in technologically advanced countries.

I responded to your BS a long time ago and like everyone else you disagree with you just ignored what I said.

so weflyhighs basic justification is "might makes right"

Its a sad day that anyone with that mentality is allowed to join the military.

No, it's the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. Did'nt you watch star trek 2.0?

ROFL! What a fucking troll.

"My country, right or wrong!"

srsly, it said explicitly at the beginning of the movie that many of the men were former soldiers but on Pandora they were just working for the company.

I still can't believe just how colonial and backwards the humans were, it's like some old imperialists from 1800-1900 had been put in stasis and dropped straight into 2150.

I saw it in a non-imax 3D theater and it was just fine. But if you're asking if this is actually a good movie or just a pretty movie, I think it's a good movie and would be good even on an old CRT in your bedroom.

Responding to the OP, I was thinking about this the past couple of days and also thought that such an uprising against the military would likely lead to the earth declaring war on Pandora and wiping it out, etc. However upon watching the movie a second time today I discovered a very important distinction...

(Minor spoilers)
in the very beginning Jake states he is an EX-marine and that all the military there are acting as hired mercenaries for the corporation, and that there is essentially no law. So everyone there IS NOT on duty nor serving the US or any other government. In this light things make a lot more sense to me. It also explains why they, the mercenaries, had to jerry-rig a shuttle as a bomber (and why they weren't able to call for reinforcements) as I'm sure they didn't have full access to Earth's military equipment. It also explains why the female soldier isn't detained after turning away in battle.

I feel like they certainly should have made this distinction a little more clear as I was a little ambivalent during the battles.

Not only were those mercenaries, but they were an invading force - supposedly already violating the laws of US and most any other civilized world government. The land under "home tree" was owned by Nabu - and the mercenaries were trying to take it over.

I actually didn't even think the movie had a very strong liberal agenda. Or maybe I just blocked it out.

So is the sequel going to be the evil white people coming back, just nuking these people from orbit, and taking the ore?

I kinda wondered why they never nuked the natives, but I guess that wouldn't make for much of a story. :p

Seriously though, I really hope no sequels are made. The movie wrapped itself up quite nicely and any sequels would be forced at best, if not shameless cash grabs.

OP, you got it all wrong. The mercenaries were all German Nazis. This was also an alternative future where hitler won WWII. Therefore, the actions the brave solder was a good thing.

I would completely agree with you if they where americans, but the fact that they where nazi germans makes the move a spectacular success. That was the best part! Almost as good as Valkyrie (whos story line I think they where trying to copy.)

Lmao, you guys really don't see that the mercenaries are meant to represent America? You know that blue aliens don't really exist right? They represent something too...
