It's not like this is the first time a store has ever been robbed. This situation has been studied and considered and the safest cheapest strategy has been determined for a long time.

If you're going to boycott stores that would've fired him I hope you don't find yourself needing anything from any chain store.

False.

this all the way...

People say CCWs are for protecting themselves from life or death situations. Many times including examples of "good thing this guy was a CCW holder" videos, it's not life or death and they still pull their weapon out, maybe to protect OTHER people and maybe not even themselves. This guy ran out, retrieved a weapon, and confronted the guy, escalating the situation.

The situation was already escalated the moment the perp pulled out a gun.

And the pussification of America continues :/ Back in the day, this employee would have been praised and life would have gone on.

Corporate policy and the beliefs of too many in this thread are to bend over and take it in the ass while being a passive little bitch.

This guy is a stand up citizen standing up against a serial armed robber. He's a man. Some of you pussy ass bitches in this thread should learn a few lessons from him.

And by confronting this perp yourself, you could make the situation get from bad to worse. He could end up shooting someone dead, something that he didn't plan to do. In this case just let him get what he came for, let him leave, do not chase him, call the police ASAP and let them deal with it.

When they find him, he either gets arrested or killed by the police for pointing his gun. People that got robbed, if they followed his orders usually end up safe and unharmed at the end of the day. Choose what scenario you'll like to be in.

This x eleventy billion. He made it out the back door and he could have ran away crying. Instead, he saved his bosses and everyone else's life in the store.

Sure folks will say that the guy might not have hurt anyone but isn't it always said that you don't pull out a gun and aim it at people unless you're going to use it? Similar to the rule that you always treat every gun as if it's loaded.

Unless you're a mind reader, for all you know, the reason he came is because he felt like murdering a bunch of people.

No one even questioned the employee's actions regarding bravery. If anything he's been commended for it. What you fail to perceive is that even though it turned out favorably, it was likely a bad decision. He is lucky the siutation ended as it did.

And unless you're a mind reader, there is no reason to even consider this. In an unknown situation, it is better not to escalate or provoke the purp.

By default, if someone has pulled out a gun on me, I'm going to treat that person as if he's going to use it. Period. If he/she does not want to be shot, then they should not be pulling a gun on me.

And that has nothing to do with THIS situation, as the guy in this story did not have a gun pulled on him.

I would do the same thing, but know that I'm risking my job. It isn't that big of a deal by comparison. I'll take my life over my job, thank you.

But if the guy just wants money, just hand it over. If he just wanted to light people up, they would have been dead already (most likely).

“I was in fear of my life as soon as he walked through the door and I see the gun. Your heart just starts pounding,” says Devin McClean, a former Auto Zone employee.

Ok if we're going to argue symantics, let me clarify my statement. If someone pulls a gun within 50 feet of me and starts waving it around threatening everyone around me (including me), they better get ready to get shot.

THIS!!!

Except I'm not a pussy so I'll actually say it - FUCK AUTOZONE!

The purpose of this policy is to protect their employees and their patrons. The corporate policy is a result of an examination of situations like these in which it was determined that more people die in a gunfight than if the store simply gives the robber cash.

It's only internet tough guys that lack brains that would just pull a gun every time in this situation... in theory. Men who can think realize that it's not worth risking their lives for a couple bucks in the cash register and a minimum wage job. I'd rather have brains than brawn.

That's not necessarily true. Corporations (for the most part) could give a rat's ass about the safety of it's employees or it's customers for the sake of their safety. What they're looking at is how much money they could lose if they were sued because of something happening. It's all about the almighty dollar

This is Autozone, a DIY guy's place to go when working on his toy. This is a great marketing opportunity for whomever is Autozone's best competition in the area that this guy lives in, to announce that they are hiring this guy and that they support his heroism.

They could end up winning over a large percentage of people that would have otherwise shopped at Autozone.

Make it even more of a PR nightmare for them. O'Riley or whomever is in the area of this person needs to act quickly and hire this dude because, fuck Autozone

I'm sure if this guy had killed or injured a customer(someone you know) but thwarted the robbery, you'd be saying the same thing.

Real man right there. Screw store policy, do the RIGHT thing and save people's lives.

“If I can save somebody’s life, I put that way above a store policy,” says McClean.

Duh, the clerk was a hero. Of course we're supporting him. This is regardless if he used a gun, a tire iron, or his fists. The bottom line is he did the right thing by not running away like a little girl.
