A little known fact (these days) about the Chevy W-engines: You don't need a ring compressor to install the pistons. In fact, I don't think there was ever one made, but maybe back in the day there was.

But............ Chevy had there first prototype running in 1957, they began production in 1959 for the 1960 model run.

I can't think of one smaller than the 348 Chevy engine. Olds had a 403. Buick had a 400. Pontiac engines are all the same size block, there is no "big block" Pontiac.
Unless there's some oddball engine, I'd have to go with the 348.
