I don't think that's always the case. I've known kids that came from good families, but they had a totally delinquent sibling. Everyone has their own personality, and some people are just rotten apples from the time they're old enough to walk until the day they die.

I agree. 10-13 year olds having sex IN THE MIDDLE OF A CLASSROOM, is cause for a certain amount of alarm. 10-13 year olds having sex at all is also a little scary. Prolong the time a young person is sexually active and you heighten the chances for sexually transmitted diseases.

Society moves faster than genetics. Our genes programmed us to begin reproduction when we begin puberty. Society (and longevity) has increased the age of what we consider is appropriate to be sexually active.
As with everything else in life, a few people are ahead of the curve. Kids having sex this young represent a minuscule percentage of kids their age, but they exist. It's not like it's some pandemic. They had it at school probably because they spend a majority of their time at school, and they aren't able to do it at home. This isn't a case of rape; two kids around the same age had sex.
I'm sure some of you remember playing doctor when you were kids.

And I'm sure if I went into any public area full of other people and had sex with a girl my own age, I would be charged with something, or sued by a sensitive onlooker. I'm not saying the kids are sick and twisted for wanting to have sex, I'm saying they shouldn't be pampered and told what they did was okay, because that's not what they're going to find out when they get older. They could've went to a closet and did their thing, but they POSTED A LOOKOUT (proof that they knew what they were about to do was wrong) and proceded to have sex (allegedly) in the middle of the classroom.
I don't remember the article saying anything about rape.

It's not about being prude with you are talking about children. It's fine when you know what you are getting into though. Any 11 year old has absolutely no idea what their actions are going to bring onto their life in most of the major cities of the world.
Why not let's just start screwing in a theatre while kids are watching Nemo? How about showing up at recess in the local elementary and giving a live example of birds and bees?
Also to other posters...saying those that have alot of sex always have STD's is the talk of kids mostly, even if you are over 21. An adult can protect themselves both with an application of a device and application of where they look. Most STD's are curable, if you are truly sexually dating or not HSV and HPV are risks about 25%+ on average....AIDS a big rarity if you are not into some underground scenes...the rest can be cured.

not really, stuff like this has been going on before our grandparents time. it's just more prevalent now because we have a larger population on the planet.
More likely than not there is one kid in the bunch, the leader or dominant one that was the primary instigator, who is being/has been sexually molested or at least exposed to way too much porn (whether magazines or the internet), or both.
All the oversexed 5th graders that I remember fit the profile, and there were a few in my small town. These kids aren't just 'doing what comes naturally', they're taking cues from more than just evolutionary drive.
