Witnesses told sheriff's investigators that a gunman opened fire on the men around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, then fled in a pickup truck belonging to one of the victims, according to the Star-Telegram. The newspapers said a 25-year-old man was later taken into custody in Lancaster, southeast of Dallas, and that charges were expected.

Not very many details yet, but seems like the gunman was not deterred by very well armed individuals at the gun range.

He and his neighbour took a former Marine to the gun range who was suffering from PTSD. Reportedly the man turned the gun on them both, shooting them in the back before fleeing in Kyle's truck.

I hope there is the death penalty in that state. Mad dogs need to be put down.

The guy probably hated the usa for the wars, for sending him to war, and for seeing the worst of war. He probably thought Kyle was a mass murderer and was doing the world a favor.

That's all I can come up with at this point.

PTSD is a mental illness so he won't be executed but interned, amirite?

anyway they were pretty stupid to take someone with PTSD to the range, leave it to the psychiatrist to decide if a shock cure/confronting evocating noises is a good idea or not.

Call me uninformed but taking someone with PTSD to a gun range doesn't sound like the wisest thing to do.

I should qualify that it was in a few early reports they took him there but it is also being said it was a charity event so perhaps he was just there.

I didn't agree too much with his politics, and resent seeing any honorable man lower himself to be used by Faux Noise, but I am heartbroken by this news. That was no end befitting a warrior like al Shaitan Ramad

My heart goes out to his wife and kids. I suspect there is something more than PTSD involved here, to turn your weapon on comrades like that while home, just...wow.

Guess Jesse can't sue him anymore.

I think the concerns about PTSD and firing ranges is understandable, and while I don't have an explanation pro or con, I do know some guys that had their conditions improve after going deer or bird hunting with friends and family. I can only assume Kyle and his friend were trying to do the same thing for a comrade in need.

I'm not sure what the answer to this is, but I'm positive it includes even more guns somehow.

If only we had banned semi automatics, no one would have been armed at a gun range.

This happened at a gun range. Everyone has a loaded gun at a gun range. I thought the only thing that could stop a bad person with a gun was a good person with a gun? WTF gun nuts?

I think the answer is ever more clear, we need a complete disarmament.

Criminals can probably hang onto their guns and avoid the BATF for a max of 5-10 years, in that time I envision probably only 10,000 related gun deaths due to criminals avoiding gun collection. 10,000 deaths in 10 years and then essentially no murders afterwards is a small price to pay for our future.

America and the constitution for too long has been a self-serving document meant to protect personal liberty but at great cost to noble national goals. I think its time we together as Americans lift off the burdensome yoke of personal liberty and embrace the collective goals that our leaders have challenged us with accomplishing.

Who is with me?

I fully agree. As we all know the only choice here is between unrestricted weapons access and collectivist tyranny, I guess we will have to bow under the yoke of tyranny.

I wish there was some middle ground, but alas.

It would have been nice if the name calling didn't start on the 7th post of this thread... too much to hope for I guess.

However, I agree that taking someone with PTSD to a gun range is an idea that probably should've been done under the advisement of that person's therapist or psychologist.

A single-shot pistol could have killed Chris Kyle at this gun range. In order to have saved him there couldn't have been any pistols. This is a terrible example for explaining why we need middle ground gun control, but an excellent example of how we need complete disarmament.

Also no tyranny found when it is agreed to democratically. It's the trump card for public policy! 'Murica!
