I truly hate, I mean HATE politicians.

why do you think its a craptastic idea?

Your kidding right?

You mean, you dont see something even a little bit wrong with the government forcing you to use a certain LIGHT BULB? I mean passing a law that makes it ILLEGAL to use a certain LIGHT BULB.

Your ok with that?!

yea. i should be able to run leaded gasoline as well as a car without a catalytic converter. screw the environment, i want to be able to live the way I want. the world revolves around ME. ME ME ME ME ME.
oh but CFL bulbs will save me money in the long run...so the govt is really trying to help me?! no wai!

no but seriously, i agree with Queasy that marketplace will eventually switch over to CFL bulbs, but that will be slow. In this case, i see nothing wrong with govt trying to expedite the process a bit

i mean c'mon. its not like the govt is taking away the civil liberties of its citizens. its a freaking bulb for crying out loud

Haha, I always love how liberals reach for kneejerk reactions.

So please, put up some facts. Show me that incan's pollute as much as leaded gasoline cars. In fact, why dont you show me how much a regular incan does pollute. I bet taking you car around the block once pollutes more then if you ran every light in your house for a month.

But lets not let facts and reason get in the way of a good emotional kneejerk law!

Costs need to come down on the good bulbs, the $3 a pop CFL's are why people hate the technology. The good stuff is still spendy (high wattage, wide spectrum).

It takes a long time to recoup $20 a bulb

Governments don't need to ban incandescent bulbs, they need to tax the hell out of them. If there more expensive that CFL's then people will buy CFL's...

Whats more important is driving the prices of CFLs down. Right now I can get a 75w light bulb for $1.00 or less. CFLs are like $5.

Ding Ding Ding!

I'm hoping that Wal-Mart pushing CFLs will greatly bring the price down. Unfortunately, I think I'll have replaced all the bulbs in my house by the time that happens. :D

While I use and prefer the CFL bulbs myself, its not the government's business what light bulbs I choose to use in my own home. If I'm paying for the incandescent bulbs, and their higher electrical costs, thats my concern.

If you want to help the environment, focus on something that actually matters.

Not at all. Using Incandescent bulbs in this day and age is absolutely moronic.

Great. Anything else you'd like to add, or does this sufficiently prove your stupidity? I hope you're 12 years old, because you sound as ignorant as one.

It's about energy efficiency, moron. And about heat output (switching your light from incandescent will save gobs of money energy wise, and during summer reduce the heat output in your home...saving even more energy)

Please provide us with more moronic statements, and reasons you think that an obvious techonological improvement somehow follows along party lines....Moron.

The only place I still use incandescents is in the garage where, when it's cold, CFLs are *really* dim until they warm up.

The real coup for me came when they started coming out with CFL bulbs for recessed lighting that are (somewhat) dimmable. I've got about half my kitchen changed so far, and while they only dim to a certain brightness before going out completely, it's just fine for me in there.

I'm sure you mean having an equivalent brightness. Otherwise, that'd be a floodlight!

such as carbon taxes where the funds are earmarked for cleaning up the emissions and equal 100% of the cleanup cost, no more, no less. then the cost for cleaning gets passed along to the people that use the product, forcing them to internalize the externality.

(several members here have claimed in the past that externalities do not exist)

I bought into these back when I lived in my trailer and I was trying to get my bills down and they are a bunch of garbage IMO. Most died out WELL before their time and I had one in the living room catch on fire and almost burned my house down. Had I not been home when it shorted out to cut the power off to the outlet Im sure my home would of went up and then my home smelled of burning electricals for months after that.

Did not save me any money on my bills, cost me 4x as much as a regular bulb, my home almost burned down (shorted out in the bulb unit itself, it melted, and charred itself into the outlet), and half quit working within a years time and was hardly used at all. WTF did I save?

i dunno about that. i put a 43w CFL on my back porch and its much much more brighter than the 100w incandecent bulb, and is also a whiter light. i really like it. Last night i put in a 23w CFL on my front porch and same results. I thought about putting in a 43w but didnt want to piss off my neighbors. :D

I bet the power in your trailer was bad. Probably overvolting them.

I mostly use fluorescent bulbs in my apartment for the fact that they last longer (didn't know they were better for the environment), but for my work/study station I really like using 100w GE Reveal light bulbs.

Or maybe because you know I'm right.

Banning light bulbs is just retarded. And its a horrid push for the .gov to come inside your home and tell you how to live.
