Damn guys, there are some quality shots this month!! Should be a close contest this time around. Spread the word around the forums, I'd like to get as many votes for this one as possible.

I wish we could get these contests moved to OT.
The response would be much, much bigger, and everyone in this forum would know about it anyway.

I'm actually glad it's not in OT. Kind of a smaller, closer knit community more genuinely interested in the hobby in this forum.

Some great shots this go around people. If I weren't so damn busy right now I'd be out there shooting....*sigh* I really gotta make time.

I was in Vermont and New Hampshire and had several opportunities to take snap some absolutely beautiful shots for the first category. My kids "borrowed" the rechargeable batteries from my camera. The AA replacements in there lasted 6 or 7 shots, and the new AA's from the convenience store only managed a whole dozen other photos. :(
I had every intention in the world of entering this month's contest. Oh well, there's always September :)

The trick is to get a camera where the batteries don't work in anything else. No more borrowing. You'll learn eventually. :)

That's probably going to be true of the next camera. However, my kids are (unfortunately) smart enough and creative enough to be able to figure out how to modify a battery to work in whatever they want.

It was easier this month for me to select one in each category. Personally, I thought the one I voted for would easily be better than the subject I had selected to capture. All the photos are excellent, but I think two of them capture the theme much better than the rest.

My submissions were the photographic equivalent of faux 'crabsticks' in a seafood platter, not very satisfactory, and in there just to make up some weight.

My submissions aside, there were some ones i really liked in there :)

Who gets to choose the topic for each month? At DPReview, it's the winner who gets to select the next topic, which I like.

I think it would be cool to do a Fall theme, but probably for the Oct contest....

Easy tiger. We don't all live in your hemisphere, or have deciduous trees, for that matter ;)

Ok...how about a seasons theme? Was thinking that the climate in CA doesn't really change either.

Alright guys, I've captured the polling data and posted it in the galleries. However, due to time constaint, I'll have to wait until late this afternoon to throw in names and announce the winners, so be patient! We did have our very first tie in the primary contest, and instead of waiting for it to be broken, I'm letting both entrants be recognized for their great submissions.

Not as sorry as I feel. So close! :)

edit: That's not to say I'm not happy with the outcome. Considering that was my first submission, I really couldn't have hoped for much better. I'm looking forward to next month.

You shot 'submission 5' with the dog? I spent hours admiring the sharpness of that pic. The IQ is so good (well compared to my S3). Almost made me nostalgic about my old dog. Very cool shot.

Yeah, that's my picture and my puppy. I've taken literally thousands of pictures of her (she's the main reason I got my XTi) and that's one of the few that I was really happy with.

Thanks for your comments.

I really liked submission 3 with the tomatoes. I'm surprised more people didn't vote for that one. I envisioned the "Nature of Water" would be too obvious if it was a large body of water. That's why I voted for it as the more original one.

Agreed on submission 3 with the tomatoes. I also thought it was an outstanding picture that wasn't shown love from voting. Same goes with ThePresence's and umbrella's submissions.

I certainly hope amateurs can participate or else I need to withdraw my submission. :)

Didnt really expect to win. Thanks to all who voted for me and congrats to all because each and every one of the submissions were good. Personally, I liked BornStar and paldo's submissions the best. I agree, Brainonska511's tomatoes deserved some more love. Now please dont take this as a criticism as I liked both your pics, but Jawo and dug777, your pics might look better if you straightened out your horizon. Here is a method that I follow

Thanks. That was mine - my mom's little tomato plant in the backyard. I took that with an umbrella being held between my chest and my chin.
