----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to the 3rd monthly contest here in the Anandtech Digital Camera/Video forum. Last month we received a few more entries than our first attempt, and I hope to see even more growth this time around. Per request in the last contest thread, our primary theme will center around water. This means any form of water, any interaction with water, any use of water. This is probably more wide open then our first monthly contest theme, so I hope to see lots of creative ideas submitted! I've ripped the secondary theme from fredmiranda.com, entitled "Almost Perfect". I may start providing secondary themes that require some actual thought, so we'll see how this one goes. Submissions for the secondary theme will hopefully vary from live-action shots to still lifes, so let's get started!

Also, feel free to use this thread to suggest themes for next month's contest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

August Contest Dates:

  • Photo must be taken between August 1 - 24, 2007.
  • Photo must be submitted by end of day, August 24, 2007.
  • Voting begins ~ August 25, 2007, and will run through the 29th.
  • Winner to be announced at the end of voting.
Primary August 2007 Contest Theme:

  • "The Nature of Water"
    • I've chosen the name "The Nature of Water" so that it will hopefully entice people to come up with something creative in the way that water reacts with our world. Anything relating to water is accepted, though, so good luck!
Secondary August 2007 Contest Theme:

  • "Almost Perfect" - Valiantly ripped from fredmiranda.com.
    • This entry will abide by the theme, "Almost Perfect". This can be a photograph of just about anything showing near perfection, but not quite.
    • I'm hoping to see a couple of creative entries in this one! Feel free to play around with this one.
The General Rules:

  • Submitted photos must easily pertain to the contest subject matter.
  • Contest eligible pictures MUST be taken within the dates stated for this month's contest.
  • Only one submitted photo per entrant.
  • Full EXIF info is strongly suggested to be retained with any submitted picture. I am ceasing to make this a requirement, due to the fact that this is merely a fun and no-prize contest.
  • Submitted photos must abide by forum rules (which basically means no nudity)
Post-Processing Rules:

  • We are now going to dispense with any PP rules. Anything is allowed, but I still want to discourage the following:
    • Try to refrain from turning your photo into "graphic art".
    • I would like to discourage major cloning and photo transplants.
Submission Rules:

  • Each person is given one full day after the contest ends to make their final submission. This gives time to make any last-minute PP adjustments.
  • Smallest picture size available to submit will be limited to 1200 pixels on the smallest side. This gives everyone with atleast a 2MP camera a chance to enter. (Any arguements on this one?) - UPDATE: If anyone has any problems with this, we can dispense with this rule. Now that I think about it, any full-size originals you submit to me will be available for anyone here to grab.
  • Please submit JPG's only! (Highest quality setting for JPG is suggested to reduce compression artifacts.)
  • Your final entry can be made at any time between the start of the contest itself until the submission deadline stated above.
  • Each member will have only ONE chance to submit a final entry for the contest. Once you submit, that is it.
Submitting Your Entry:

  • There will be two ways to get your photo to me:
    • Email your photo to blurredvision at gmail dot com. Please send a PM indicating an email has been sent just incase it's put in the spam folder.
    • PM me with a link to your full-size photo on the web.
Voting:

  • Voting will begin at the date stated at the start of this thread.
  • The gallery will be available to view at all times as pictures are added throughout the contest, however all final entries will be posted in this thread with links, along with a poll at the top of the thread.
  • Voting will stay open until the deadline.
Prizes:

  • Due to the nature of the contest being ran by regular members, there are no prizes to be offered. You will only gain the satisfaction of being chosen by the members of Anandtech as the best in this month's theme.
  • If any prizes are able to be given away in any future contests, I will be sure to outline the details. If you do not see mention of a prize, then assume there isn't one.

Should be interesting, this time i'll be using my gf's Sony W-35 compact, as my D80 has started mysteriously rattling and will be going on a holiday (hopefully short!) next week to rectify the ailment ;)

What kind of rattling? It could just be the orientation sensor, which rattles inside the camera.

It's pretty noisy, and goes on for a good 15 seconds after i give it a shake then put it down. Seems to happen pretty much all the sime when i hold it...sounds like a loose screw i guess. I've only got my bro's D40 to compare, and it certainly doesn't rattle.

Are you going to post a link to this month's album yet, or just wait till after the contest is over?

I've had a couple of submissions sent to me so far, but I've been SO busy these past few days, I just haven't sat down and taken the time to do it yet. I promise that I'll get this month's album up soon. However, I've only had had 2 submissions for the primary contest, and one for the secondary.

I think you should change the format. Let the contest run all month. Vote the first week of the next month while the next months contest starts.

Mainly because I don't have time to get a photo done before Friday, waaaay too busy. :p

I was hoping to be able to enter this one too.

Well... I had some pictures for the primary... but after looking through my folders last night I think I might have accidentally deleted them off the card before transferring them to the computer :(

Damn guys, there are some quality shots this month!! Should be a close contest this time around. Spread the word around the forums, I'd like to get as many votes for this one as possible.

I wish we could get these contests moved to OT.
The response would be much, much bigger, and everyone in this forum would know about it anyway.

It would be reasonable to say by early tomorrow morning, so long as you have it submitted by 24 hours from my posting this message, you should be fine.
