From time to time, VX2 may decide to update it's software in order for it to work at it's peak performance. Upgrades may include third party applications. Certain third party applications may have to be installed in order for the software to work properly. VX2 users are not responsible for these additions and/or updates, they will be done automatically in the background while you are surfing the web in order to cause the least amount of inconvenience to our users as possible.

Unbelievable. Its a trojan but worse because firewalls apparently don't catch it. Interesting that they allow you to "delete" your data from their servers...all you have to do is give them your name and address etc....and not your ip! B@st@ards! :|

I wonder if GRC knows about this. It would be nice to get it confirmed from someone like that.
*update* - I sent the article link to them just in case. I'd love to hear them comment on it.
*update* - GRC's reply basically said that they aren't really trojan/spyware specialists and aren't supporting optout any more but to contact Adaware. (I'm guessing they've added it but sent them the link anyways.)

<< Does this apply if you d/led and used Audiogalaxy, like, Summer 2001? Has this vx2 thing always been packaged with it? >>

Yes. Actually, they claim that it now does not include vx2. So what, they just renamed the .dll?

Damn, I just ran ad-aware and had like 15 spyware programs on my work computer. I know I have audiogalaxy at home. Got to clean that too. What creeps.

Just got rid of it. Damn this pisses me off.

BTW.. from the instructions on how to get rid of it:

6) Find the and delete the entry named "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{00000000-5eb9-11d5-9d45-009027c14662}".

7) delete the {00000000-5eb9-11d5-9d45-009027c14662}entry.

8) Reboot computer.

9) Search your "C" drive for VX2.dll

10) Delete VX2.dll

Ad-Aware actually detected the "00000000-5eb9-11d5-9d45-009027c14662" entry, and got rid of it. I still needed to reboot but didn't need to go through the registry.

I really really can't stand when people/software/companies decide things for you. "We log your keystrokes so you don't have to fill out forms! We're doing YOU a favor!" F*CK OFF!

Dang.. and this is legal?

Isn't including key logger into a shareware program with an intent to be distributed without a notice constitutes as trojan horse?

Download Ad-Aware and also the RefUpdate application (almost made by Lavasoft). That will make sure your reference file is up to date, and it will delete this VX2.dll crap.

Might not kill all the keys (according to a user on the Lavasoft forum), but I imagine that it will be enough for the moment (and future versions will likely clean it all).

gopunk, you are putting far to much faith into your firewall.

I dont know anything about this virus, other then whats been posted in this thread, but if vx2.dll is loaded as part of AudioGalaxy, it will have full access to the internet, just like AG has.. Unless you blocked AG's ports.. then of course AG wouldnt work.. but thats another story..

So depending on how this virus is integrated with AudioGalaxy, it can, and most likely does, have full access to the internet, ZoneAlarm or not.

I didnt have it, but I run Adaware at least twice a week on average, and I check for updates about every 4 weeks. I might have killed it already with Adaware. My roommate, however, did have vx2.

This kind of crap is setting a precedent for other shady software distributors. Even though I'm free of vx2.dll it still was enough to scare me to go get Ad-aware pronto. I've been way too confident in my firewall. If my mom finds out about my llama pr0n, I'm grounded for sure...

So, VX2 is not on my computer, but I'm still running Audiogalaxy. I haven't done anything to delete it or otherwise change anything. Ad-aware never removed it, as far as I know. If this shows on every person's PC who runs AG, why isn't it on mine? And all these other people's who use AG?

Just wondering.

Is there any way to block off the spyware? Audiogalaxy is the best for finding songs. I've tried every other alternative myself.
