Audigy 2 is out!

THe SB audigy 2 is out. I noticed that they support 6.1 channel sound. Does anyone know of sub $300 6.1 quality speakers?

Does it (or anything other than N-Force) do real-time 5.1 encoding?

The soundcard market has been pretty stagnant for quite some time.

From what I know, it doesn't do real-time 5.1 encoding..

Creative is coming out with their 6600's (I think that's the right model) that supports 6.1..

i refuse to upgrade from the audigy1 gamer, it's more than good enough and those extras included w/audigy2 like THX, dolby digital, and DTS don't really mean much except a higher price tag. plus i can't afford 6.1 speakers to take advantage of it, except for the cheap creative speakers which i just don't like

You may want to check out the Terratec(sorry, no linky 🙁 ). It has true 24/96 support and is approx the same price as an Audigy Platinum.

Does the Audigy2 actually have it? Or is it like the original Audigy?
from what I understand, the audigy2 is true 24 bit throughout the card, not just 24 bit internaly with 16 bit D/A converters

i'm still happy with my sound blaster Live!
Same here. It would be practically worthless for me to upgrade the the Audigy 2 (let alone the original Audigy), since all I ever listen to music through is my rca wireless headphones (they aren't particularly quiet in the background noise dept.) I would get some decent speakers and use them, if only I could convince my parents that the music I listen to (mostly classic rock and metal) isn't evil... 🙁

Creative owns 30% of Dolby.. So that DTS and THX stuff in Audigy 2 might not be like the REAL DTS or THX system.. You know Creative..

Pure marketing..

I bet Audigy 2 is gonna have more troubles than use like the Original Audigy

Actually its the other way round. The Audigy has 24bit DACs, but its only 16bit internally right before the DAC...I haven't seen any reviews of the Audigy2 yet, so I guess the jury's still out on its audio capabilities.

w00t......? nothing too exciting, really. just a bolt on to the Audigy. if you want a nice 6.1 speaker setup you should go to an audio place and put one together. i don't think that any PC 6.1's (if they exist) would be high enough quality to bother with the extra channel.

I'm hardly a fan of Creative, but considering that Dolby has nothing to do with THX, which is a Lucasfilm certification or DTS which is a competitor to Dolby's DD5.1.

Audigy 2 is out!

Not that I want to interfere with the Creative bashing (they deserve it) - Is this thing actually out?
I mean is there anyplace with one in stock that I could actually buy?

All I have is a SB Live! 5.1 SC and I've heard an audigy card but seems to be no difference. Plus, sound really isn't THAT important to me. I'm all about the FPS. 😀DDDDDDDD
