Yeah, no doubt about the HP difference... my roomie is wanting to put in the new chip which ups the HP on the S4 to 320. Not bad! :D

I'm currently considering an A4 .. I think the audi design is very clean and sleek.

Hehehe.. I raced a guy in a modified (god I hope so) S4 in my 300ZX and it's without a doubt the first time I thought a 4 door sedan was gonna beat me. I just about had a heart attack. Hehehe. If the poor guy didn't have a 5 speed, he might have won!

Even in a 5-speed, it's damn hard to chirp the tires with the Quattro kicking in. My roommate's S4 is an automatic with the tiptronic autostick. Man that thing is smooth when it's shifting, even at high revs.

N8Magic:
That logo is the new AudiSport logo, one big red diagonal. The older AudiSport logo was the one with the thin(ner) red and silver diagonals. They switched partway through the S4's model cycle.

Ragiepew:
You must not have been looking at the US site, as the S3 is not available in the US.

Production of the current S4 will end after a few months into 2002, because the new A4 debuts in the US this fall. The S4 based on the new A4 will not be available for a few years.

Many chips are available, and the all produce roughly the same amount of power.

I wouldn't get an A4 now if I were you fake. They are changing the design this fall. I'd wait until then. Unless you don't care whether you have a dated design or not.

<< 2) LOWER THE TIRE PRESSURE IN THE REAR WHEELS! Doing this will eliminate the characteristic understeer present in most AWD cars. >>

err... eliminate the understeer?? wouldn't that just do the opposite?

<< If you do 2 simple things to the car it will own M3s all day long - >>

err... maybe if you do one "simple" thing to the driver, then ...

Agreed.... people are always pointing to magazine performance numbers... most drivers can't hit them, especially in 5 or 6 speed cars.

Driver brain and skills are the biggest mods you can do to a car! :p

hey, thanks for the suggestions guys... I guess I didnt see the US audi site. Anyway, any word on when the new S4 will come out? I'm looking to buy a car in 2003 so hopefully by then. Anyway, thanks again... and keep the suggestions comming. The thing I love about the currnet s4 is the price... almost an m3 w/o at a much cheaper price... plus they are a bit more rare than the m3's. Also, are the new m3's 4wd? Thats another good thing about the s4... damn quaddro (sp?) kicks a$$.

I don't know if you noticed the link in my sig, but I have a chipped Audi A4 quattro and yes, quattro kicks some major boot-ay.

Audi is sold at a nice discount in the US because up until recently they had a pretty poor image here due to the whole "unintended acceleration" B.S. that 60 minutes reported on in the early 90's.

In most of the rest of the world Audi is sold for as much or more than BMW and in some countries it's considered more of a premium brand than BMW (keep in mind that in the rest of the world you can get a 1.3 liter BMW 3 series econo box (I do love BMW's though, don't get me wrong).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Audi prices creeping up over the next 2-3 years.

<< What are the major differences between the S4 and the A4 >>

The S4 is the performance version of the A4 line...analogous to the M3 for the BMW 3-series. The S4 has a 2.7 liter bi-turbo engine producing 250hp, where as the A4 has two trim levels...the 1.8 liter turbo producing 170hp and the 2.8 liter V6 producing 190hp.

<< Well, I went to Audi's page and I see no mention of the S4. >>

The S4 is being put on hiatus for a year or two while the new A4 line-up is being rolled out...it should come out as a 2003 model hopefully. It may even have it's own unique body style separate from the rest of the line-up...2003 S4????

Heh, get a Scooby WRX STI 22B/P1 and bribe emissions (even w/ the no bribing sign) to let you have the car in the states :). Or you can wait for the regular WRX to come to the states, 227 is pretty decent tho.

Scooby-Doo Ownz You! TEEHEHEH

Oh yea I've had a ride in a 1997 BMW M3, those are REAL nice, as for the newer ones, I suggest you read this interesting page http://www.donotbuyabmw.com/, and my uncle owns a BMW 325xi, and complains that there are a lot of problems w/ it compared to his old M3, you should go for the X5.

The RS4 is currently Audi's fastest car I believe :D

It's funny as hell, Audi's fastest car is a Wagon (well I suppose you might get away with calling it a 4door hatch back..but it's a wagon ;))

0-60 in ~5!
(It's actually 0-100km/h in 5, 100km/h is close to 60mph...I think 100km/h is slightly faster)

I think the RS4 is around 375HP to...

It also has a very very nice flat torque curve...from about 2500 to 6000 RPM or so I think it is roughly even torque response.

The RS4 is a machine. Funny body to put in it, but it's a machine.

What can I say, Audi's got Character :D It may not be "classy" to have a Wagon that smokes the rest of their lineup, but it's definately different :D

They better not screw up the A4 by redesigning it. I would hate to see the audi's sexy lines screwed up by some artistic desginer.

S8 is available in the states.

Mitsubishi is renaming the Mirage to the Lancer. (Pretty much the same car anyway).

Mitsubishi is probably not going to bring the LanEvo over. From what I have heard, execs think that the LanEvo would just take sales from the Eclipse even though they are two different cars. They actually think the Eclipse is doing well enough in sales LOL! I say get rid of that crap and bring in the LanEvo.

I heard the S4 was going to be permanently discontinued because the engines available in the new A4 series are pretty much powerful enough. Of course I don't know that much about Audi's, personally I hate their designs.

In terms of an M3 (e46) vs. the S4, I love the design of the M3, hate the design of Audi's. However, I would definitely rather have the sedan over a coupe, and the Quattro kicks butt. An I also lean towards wagons, so the S4 Avant... dyam...

And as for "Also, I heard a rumor that the *4 series was getting "redone", any info on this?" The new A4 has been out in Europe for what, a year? But anyway, there were a lot of flaws so Audi is taking it's time to perfect everything before bringing it to the states. I think it's scheduled for an October release in the states, but the dealerships have told me not to expect them until next year. I personally like the new styling a lot more than the old one, but seeing as I had the styling altogether, that's not saying much.

Now if you want some kick ass performance, less refinement and more money left over in the bank, go grab an Impreza WRX, the STi variant will be over in a year, so you could perhaps wait for that. I sure hope they get rid of those nasty looking lights.

Lastly, how about the Skyline GT-R? =D The v series is coming over as the G35, I hope the r series will make it over...

And as for turbos, god I love turbos. The sound of it spooling up and then the blow off valve's pssh. DYAM. But yeah, getting an NA engine and then turboing it would be even better!
