Audi S4

I am thinking about getting one of these on a bout a year and a half..... i know, i know... what the hell am I asking this now for? Well, I went to Audi's page and I see no mention of the S4... only S3, S6, S8... no S4. Also, I heard a rumor that the *4 series was getting "redone", any info on this? And lastly, if anyone has one/drives one how does it "feel" and how does it stack up to... say an M3..

Thanks.

If you do 2 simple things to the car it will own M3s all day long -

1) Garret Chip (I think thats the company) - gives it ~300hp.
2) LOWER THE TIRE PRESSURE IN THE REAR WHEELS! Doing this will eliminate the characteristic understeer present in most AWD cars.

I'm looking for the S4 on their site too... strange...

so you guys would rather take an s4 over the new m3?? the new m3 is awesome..i finally saw the new m3 convertible yesterday.....can we say BONER!!! 😀 that thing looks wicked@!

i do admit though....the S4 is pretty tight.

UM,

Not that I don't believe you, but I have never seen an S4 with badging like that. The ones up in Canada here (and the ones on the Audi website) also have a S4 badge on the front.

I wouldn't go for an S4 over a new m3. First of all the s4 is a sedan, i'd want a coupe aka m3. It'd be nice if the S4 could come in a coupe, but now. Also the S4 already has turbos on it, and the m3 is still NA. Plus, i love my m3 and i don't think i'd switch.

How about the RS4? Twin turbo love. This car will keep up with a Porsche 911 Turbo in straight line acceleration. :Q

It is illegal in America though.

theres an S4 in the parking garage of my apartment complex... right next to an AMG SL500.

To answer that, I'll tell you that my roommate bought an OEM grill (notice it's a honeycomb grill rather than the brick style grill). The new honeycomb grill (which I think is a standard grill on the RS4) won't fit with the standard S4 badge that comes on the older grill, so some "modification" to the badge has to be done in order to fit it on there.

That's the story, and I'm stickin to it 😀

Just tell Mitsubishi to hurry up and bring the Lancer Evo to the states.

I will have an S4 when they roll out the 2003 models though... oh yes.

<< Funny you can only compare the S4 to an MB C320 and the Saab 9-3. >>

to them the 3 series is non-existent... last time i read in a european car mag, they compared the S4 to M5.

We're getting the Lancer and possibly the Evo. Depends on sales. Hopefully Mitsu won't screw us over.

Exactly. I believe the Euro S4 is much more powerful than the American version. (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

That's funny, because my roommate raced an M3 last Friday and beat it by a half carlength in a 1/4. This wasn't wide-open street racing, mind you, but in rush hour traffic. I'll take the turbocharged S4 over a NA M3 anyday. The M3 is a badass ride, don't get me wrong, but I'm totally hooked on the Audi.

You must have raced a E36 M3 not the E46. I've only seen 3 of those and they were all at the dealership.

My friends have E36 M3s and they are quick but they aren't anywhere close to as fast as the new ones.

You could be right... to be honest I don't know the distinction in the two models. I make no bones about it, the S4 isn't the fastest thing on the road, but the ride is absolutely incredible. And, you can get the damned thing for $40,000... try getting a new M3 for that price. Fat chance. 😀

I've got nothing against the S4. In fact, I think it's a much better deal than the M3. Plus it comes in a wagon, which I might get because I have a family now.

But the car you raced was probably the E36 model which has about 240HP compared to the new ones which have 333HP. Big difference there.
