i think the implication was, the driver shat himself or pied himself. it wouldn't mean the driver didn't walk away.

No doubt. It's hard to tell from the limited pics, but a front passenger would have liquified. Not so sure what condition the rear passengers would be in.

The funny thing is that the tree looks like it faired pretty well.

Driver was very lucky. They are saying (on the car lounge) that he was doing 120mph on his snow tires which is why he had no grip and flew into the tree.
