We here at ECCP are having a tough time holding out rank.
All the other teams use floating teams to help out DC projects.
We were wondering if you could lend us a bit of your awsome firepower to move up again.
Any little bit would be welcome!!

:);):D:);):D

Thanx for your time!!!

After the MTR is over and I get back into town I will start looking to divert some power to you guys to help out. I am in the process of doing some upgrades and such so I am not sure how much I can divert but I will do my best to give you a hand. :)

How long is ECCp lasting? I should be able to transfer at least one processor on my dual Celeron server for a while if it will play nicely with Seti on the other processor...

how would i set it up to only use say processor 2 on a dualie?

Thanks

The ECCp-109 project will end in November'02 according to MereMortal's ECCp-109 Project Progress & Predictions

All we need is a tiny bit of help (+8000 DP's a day) to keep out Ars Technica (btw check their teams page here) and to try and catch TechIMO to finish in the Top 3 places.

A DP (Distinguished Points) represents approximately 52 minutes of work on a PII 400Mhz.

Let's start with the client:

If you are running Windows download the Windows GUI/Tray client here (it's a lot faster than the console client)

Run the installation and when the DOS Console appears you have to write your:

- Username (ex: ShotgunSteve)
- E-mail address (ex: shotgunsteve@whoever.whatever.net)
- Unique handler (I think this one is like an unique identifier just in case there are 2 or more people with the same Username)

After you completed you first DP (Distiguished Point) press Send Results on the GUI client so you can register yourself as a member of Team AnandTech.

To register, go to this page here and at the bottom of the page insert your e-mail address in the formbox...

And away you go crunching ECCp-109

Welcome to the TeAm

From the ECCp-109 homepage (I don't know what a DP is either )

How does it work?

So basically each machine is running around computing a whole bunch of points on this elliptic curve (in a well-defined way) and we're waiting for two machines to arrive at the same point. I told you already that my PII 400Mhz is computing about 170,000 points per second. Clearly we cannot simply gather all of these points up and look for two that are the same. Instead, we gather only SOME of the points - the so-called distinguished points. These are points that have some fixed distinguishing property and occur only once in a while.
But here's why this helps: Each new point that is computed depends only on the previous point. So if two machines have arrived at the same point, they will continue to compute a whole bunch of identical points. Eventually (and not too long thereafter) one of these points will have the distinguishing property, and both machines will compute it and report it. We will then have our solution.
This is what's reported by the program when it says, for example: DP=172. This means that the program has found 172 distinguished points in total so far. These distinguished points have been chosen in such a way as to be fairly rare. This is so that we don't have to collect a huge number of them at the central server (I have only a fixed amount of disk space to hold them). So don't be discouraged if you download the code and sit there watching "DP=0" for a long time. Believe me when I say that it will find some distinguished points at a fairly predictable frequency. Not all distinguished points are created equal either: What really matters, in the long run, is how many points your machine has computed. If it took a really long time to find some distinguished point, then that point is "worth" more in the sense that it's "more likely" to provide a solution than one that was found very quickly.
The criteria that we're using for distinguished points will find one for about every 229 points computed. This means my PII 400 will find about 27 per day, on average. Each distinguished point equates to about 150 bytes to be returned (plus some overhead), so this project is very low bandwidth on the client side. That is, you don't need a cable modem or T1 to participate - even a weeks worth of results won't take long to send back over a dial-up connection.

hope this one helps

On the PC I'm using, TB 1.33 GHz, I've allready computed 1,222,168,473,216 Points with 2329 Distiguished Points calculated

Kanatna & nagger,

I congratulate you both... We need all the help we can get. I'll be adding another 1.4Ghz@??? as soon as it arrives in the mail. :):)

If there's a Linux client, I'll dedicate my bedroom system (1.1 GHz P3) and half of my dualie (667 MHz P3) to it.

Any advice for setting up on Linux?

Alright, bedroom comp is now officially switched to ECCp-109. I'll get the dualie crackin' once I fix it. :)

Thank you Seti guys and gals for your response. MUCH appreciated.
Thanks Nagger for the Q&A while I sleep.;)
Electrode, after you feel comfortable with the setup you might try the enhanced clients here Linky

Thx again.:D:):D:)

Thats something like 524,761,045 Points per DP :Q ... and since my 1.33 TB clocks 870.000 interactions per second I can clock a DP every 15 minutes or so.

When the first DP clocks in the rest of them will come naturally

Is something supposed to get e-mailed to me automatically when I sign up? Also, is my name supposed to show up on that list?

Congrats there ShotgunSteve,

The first one is always the hardest,

In less than an hour our resident statsman MereMortal will post today's stats and we can check your numbers...

Once again welcome to the ECCp-109 TeAm.

The stats r updated 4 times a day: 06:00, 12:00, 18:00, 00:00 (GMT - 5:00 / US - IN) so your name will only appear at the next stats update.

I didn't get any e-mail from the ECCp-109 project when I joined, I'm hoping to get one when I win the $1000 dollars :):):):)

That's why it's important to have a working e-mail when u join this project, because Chris Monico (the head dude at the ECCp-109) needs to email the two winners so each one can receive 1000 dollars each.

:D

I can probably put a Pentium II 350 onboard, maybe a Pentium III 550, but I need to hold my ranks in folding@home.

Behold the power of Pentium!

Put it on a PIII 750 MHz Laptop and I am waiting for the first DP :) Will keep you up to date on it's progress :)
