I can pretty much guarantee you that those people, whom have stock HD's and stuff, have been banned before this halo 2 thing, and that this halo 2 banning for them is their 2nd or 3rd time being banned. This means they have at one time or another already changed the EEPROM in their xboxin order to get back on xbox live after being banned. So now with this new upgrade, M$ see's a non matching "marriage" (refer to my earlier post about that marriage term) and bans them again.

There area bunch of different scenarios here for people with modchips.

1. People who signed up to xbox live with stock HD and STILL have the stock HD and aren't banned now.
2. People who signed up to xbox live with stock HD and have upgraded their HD and aren't banned now.
3. People who signed up to xbox live with upgraded HD and still have the upgraded HD and aren't banned now.
4. People who signed up to xbox live with upgraded HD and went back to stock HD and aren't banned now.
5. People who signed up to xbox live with stock HD and STILL have the stock HD and are banned now.
6. People who signed up to xbox live with stock HD and have upgraded their HD and are banned now.
7. People who signed up to xbox live with upgraded HD and still have the upgraded HD and are banned now.
8. People who signed up to xbox live with upgraded HD and went back to stock HD and are banned now.

You have to consider all of those possible situations, as WELL as if the person has already been banned in the past or not, which gives you a total of 16 possible scenarios. And then if you consider people with softmods (software exploits to give modchip type access to your xbox), you have 32 possible scenarios.

So I don't think the LPC has anything to do with it, since I'm fine. yes my chip actually does have power when its disabled, but I personally do not think its possible for m$ to see if something else is attached to the LPC port, because if they are checking the LPC points on the motherboard, none of them are going to be closed circuits, if you know what i'm saying.

Reverse engineering or even haxoring your xbox is specifically forbidden according to the TOS you agreed to when you bought your xbox.

rather not have little kiddie cheating hax0rs online ruining it. small price to pay, xbox are dirt cheap.

AHh ok I get what you mean now. So I'd be safe (presumably) if I just swapped back my stock HD? (Never been banned before, 2.3)

PRESUMEABLY you will be safe if you just go on xbox live with whatever hard drive you had in your xbox when you first signed up for xbox live ... presumeably. i mean give it a shot. either you give it a shot and dont get banned, you give it a shot and do get banned, or you dont give it a shot and never use xbox live anyways.

sounds like you dont have anything to lose heh.

all im saying is i havent' had any problems, and i know alot of people whom haven't had any problems either and they are running larger HD's than stock, and had those ones installed when they first signed up to xbox live.

There's a reason why it says rumor in the OP. I'll revise it to say rumor in bigger letters since you can't read.

i am more talking about people who keep bringing this up, sorry if it offended you.

people keep jumping to assumptions and have no clue what they are talking about. even if they scan the LPC ports on my xbox with a chip, what are they going to find? nothing, cause the chip is off :)

like i said, I am on xbox live with my mod chip disabled and have not had a problem, and im 99.9% sure it will continue to work this way.

So if the chip has an on/off switch, and the switch is turned to off, there's no way to power up the modchip through the LPC?

Or do you physically have to remove the chip from the LPC?

That is incorrect. I signed up for Xbox Live AFTER I modded my Xbox, which includes an HD upgrade and have not been banned.

He's saying if you left your chip on and got banned. The points you highlighted in bold pretty much defeat the purpose of having an on/off chip and an upgraded HD and playing on Live.

The vast majority of people who mod their Xbox, illegally copy games.

So, you are saying that if MS alienates the theives, they are going to lose money?

Btw, XBC is far inferior to Xbox Live... It's no comparison. If I had a modded Xbox, I'd purchase a second Xbox to run H2 online.

You need the original game to use xbox live, when you play on xbox live your modchip is disabled so it can function like a factory xbox. They got our money for the game & for the live service. When I go to a friends house i'm not gonna bring along 14 disks.
