Yeah so far on the different forums I been reading the main three projects folks are talking about is Folding at Home, Rosettaat home, and WCG. With WCG running well back of the other two.

Frick. First UD cops out on me, then I move to FAD and now it's finishing. I think I'm going to give up on DC...

Does F@H run as a service, w/ no user input?

I may take this opportunity to gracefully exit the DC arena... I'd like to work on the stats more, but I'm not really that excited about any of the existing projects from a participant perspective... dunno if that's because of the projects or if I'm just losing the bug a bit...

Yes the newest version of folding can run as a service. and I've heard a number of folks on other forums say the same thing Geoff. One nice thing aboiut the Rosatta project is it's still new and easier to move up in.

I concur. UD & FaD were the only two I cared about. Oh well.

The decision has little to do with moving up in the project for me... that I'm not producing at levels I used to is just life... I love the comraderie around doing the projects, but none of them jump out at me right now... maybe I just need to look into them more...

There is this one which I believe is actually using the results from THINK ?
http://www.nfcr.org/Default.aspx?tabid=408

"Our future research would be focusing on upgrading our system to the more sophisticated LIGANDFIT software. LIGANDFIT will take the lists of hits generated so far and run them to generate a smaller list of more accurately generated hits. The THINK software had the virtue of incredible speed with a very light demand on data transfer. We now are using LIGANDFIT, an improvement made possible by virtue of the power that the user community has made available. We believe that this software's scoring function, which indicates just how good hits are likely to be, is more accurate than the methods used previously. This upgrade will lead to a more promising set of potential drugs to synthesize and test. "

Yes, it runs as a service.....
I set it up on one box. there is a secondary program "FAH Logstats" that you can monitor network clients with..

This is just a rehash of the UD Project (same one) that is now GRID.ORG. Basically put a new face on it but it is still the same project run by the same folks ... FOR PROFIT

Hi folks,

Some information for you ...

BOINC can be distributed and run via ACTIVE DIRECTORY in any mode desired (user specific, all users, SERVICE) ...

Apparently once distributed, there is little or no direct control of the client possible from a remote computer. It should be possible to uninstall the client and re-install the client with changed parameters without much effort. I believe that I can also use a script to restrict access to the folder from the prying of network users.

I'll do some testing but, apparently, BOINC seems to be an attractive possibility. I'll share my testing methodologies and scripts with anyone that wants them.

If the testing bears out ... then the next step may be to select a BOINC project ....

I am leaning towards Climate Prediction or SETI until the ORBIT project comes online in, perhaps, 2006

What do you folks think ???

Thanks

mondo

They are also working on a version of Folding at home for boinc.
I think if I decide to go the BOINC direction it will most likely be the Rosatta project until Obit gets here

I have to confess, I got a bit fed up with FaD and at the minute I'm running SETI, Einstein and Rosetta via Boinc.
The two I'm practically drooling for are PlanetQuest and Orbit :D

This just SUCKS! :(

I am so lost, I was really just starting to get into this project and it ends. I want to help humanity this go around, I looked for aliens for 6 years, enough with the space program stuff for me. Anything I run will be for helping people directly and non-profit.

I think most of us feel the same way.
Folding seems to be the main project of choice at most of the other team forums bty.

I've been reading the forums on both tsc and d2ol and it seems things have gotten even worst not better. From reading some of Charles' posting on the TSC forum even he feels that way it seems.

I find it a bit sad really, the submission forum for the 2.5 client began on 21 November, 2003 and it's still going.
No new programmer, no new candidates for botulism and plague :(
I thought (and hoped) I would have been running this for years :( :(
It seemed to be doing better when Sengent were running it ( just my opinion of course, wonder what ever happened to the $25000? :D )
