Crap, I thought you meant "Attention whores" as in you wanted to talk to hookers. Oh well.

Yes it is,the dignosis just gets called something different or rolled into another personality disorder.I spent 15 yrs working in the mental health field I've seen drama queens of both sexes !!Dudes just go about getting attention differently, usually in a more violent or antisocial fashion!

What's important to also note when you start throwing dignostic labels on people is that because none of us has perfect parents there is no such thing as a completely "well " person. The differential is if your negative traits led to an inability to function in your chosen lifestyle.Just because your personal style isn't the same
as another person's doesn't always mean that person is psychiatrically ill. Also, part of the nature of the human beast is the quest to survive, there's many folks walking around who fit dx criteria in the DSM - IV who actually function in their daily lives quite well simply because of one basic fact, people tend to gravitate to others who share similar viewpoints /appreciate their style, birds of a feather flocking together and all :) DSM - IV is a valuable tool but it is not the end all be all in this stuff :)

Good Morning!

And thanks for both the hugs and the intelligent responses. I do think it is an interesting topic, especially since it can be so easy to get called one around here.

~Hope everyone has a lovely day~

Oops

Good morning to you Isla. Just please try not to get more attention than me and my green-gilled-you're-an-attention-whore-reflex won't be triggered.

ATOT Attention Whores are people who are just a little narcissistic.

see here for infor. most attention whores aren't full blown narcissitic, but certainly leaning that way.

I think Isla may be right about a few attention whores leaning towards Histrionic Pers. Disorder.

Oops, I mistakenly misread the topic. It's "Attention Whores" not "Attention <pause> Whores".

I wanted to include this link...

Histrionic Personality Disorder

This is what I would define as an AH in real life, although I would be more inclined to say they were simply personality disordered.

Holy sheeit... I fall under almost everything on that page. No kidding...ahhh, I didn't think I was some kind of nutjob...

But then again, I am a teen...ahhh all the same...

/0 See scipionix's post on page one. And by the way what is page one and what isn't has a lot to do with how many posts you cusrtomize to desplay. At the moment my pages are 50 posts but I like all the icons showing so I can admire baffled2's red hair, otherwise I'd set it to 100.

Be careful not to try and show people how wonderful you are just to be noticed by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven, the true Ground of All Being. So, when you do something wonderful, do not let you image-self broadcast to the world what your real-self has done. Otherwerwise your image self will reduce reality to an image and your reward will slip away like sand in an hourglass. The wonder that your real self does is seen by the Father, who sees what is done in secret. He will reward you when you make Him your reward. His reward is the only reward that is real.

Athanasius' modern application of Matthew 6:1-4

The reality is the person and the act. In the reality is found the reward. People who do things based on people's responses (and I am people too) are not well-grounded.

If their neediness somehow angers me, what does that say about me?

Reactionary neediness is more needy than the original neediness that we use to excuse our reaction.

that's a lot of neediness.

Few things are truly needed. Really, only ONE. But we don't see it that way.

If your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness. If the light that is within you is darkness, how great is that darkness?

-- Jesus of Nazareth, circa 33AD.

pyonir:

If we are talking about physical needs, you left out the all important WARMTH. Oh yes, and internet access :)

I don't think this thread is about physical needs.

I always imgained it as someone who wanted to be the center of attention to the the forums all upset not nesisarly with each other just annoyed in general. Someone who craves it and desires it like....

an alcholic woman who thinks that she's the queen of sheba.
and deserves to be treated as such.

The problem is that attention whores don't always get the KIND they want.

Again, thanks to all my friends who have shared warm, intelligent responses, hugs, waves, and guitar serenades! :D No matter what people say about this community not being how it used to be, there are still plenty of thoughtful (and humorous) people here.

And Athanasius, thank you. :) That's a beautiful post I will take to heart and keep in mind in the coming days.
