What struck me out of that article is that Histrionic Personality Disorder is rarely found in men. Since it is likely that this dicussion may at some point involve gender I found it necessary to make this clear.
Yes it is,the dignosis just gets called something different or rolled into another personality disorder.I spent 15 yrs working in the mental health field I've seen drama queens of both sexes !!Dudes just go about getting attention differently, usually in a more violent or antisocial fashion!
What's important to also note when you start throwing dignostic labels on people is that because none of us has perfect parents there is no such thing as a completely "well " person. The differential is if your negative traits led to an inability to function in your chosen lifestyle.Just because your personal style isn't the same
as another person's doesn't always mean that person is psychiatrically ill. Also, part of the nature of the human beast is the quest to survive, there's many folks walking around who fit dx criteria in the DSM - IV who actually function in their daily lives quite well simply because of one basic fact, people tend to gravitate to others who share similar viewpoints /appreciate their style, birds of a feather flocking together and all

DSM - IV is a valuable tool but it is not the end all be all in this stuff
