Still no ads on my DVR. I guess that's because it doesn't carry any other douchebag's support and branding. Nobody trying to make money off it but me.

Seriously, people, if you're serious about recording stuff, get a real DVR-PC. Sure, a 10-year-old can't use it, but we're all intelligent people here. And judging by how some of you people treat financial issues, you definitely have the cash.

And before anyone says it, mine fits in the formfactor of a VCR when it's installed in the proper case.

Yeah that is great and all unless you are using directv or digital cable.

I would prefer not to lose quality in the process. Maybe once cable cards come out someone could do a quality dvr with a PC.
My MCE2k5 box records digital cable just fine. And its encoding quality is better than my Tivo's.
I agree though, once CableCard-supporting tunercards come out, things will be much better.

I'm calling TIVO and demanding they refund part of my lifetime subscription since I'm being forced to look at ads.

that's the problem with the lifetime subscription. they can change the terms at any time.

"Our goal is in no way to interfere with the TiVo experience," TiVo spokesman David Shane said.

Uh, isn't a popup's entire purpose to get between you and what you're trying to do? This completely destroys the Tivo experience and I expect hacks to defeat this.

In other news ... Google has the toolbar/pop up blocker for TiVo ...... and a new version of Firefox for TiVo has been released... 😉

Got my 1st ads during 24 last night, odd thing was it was ONLY on 24. I did not show up during Medium (other channel). Hmm...
