The pop-up ads are coming!

Apparently when you begin to fast foward, the pop-ups will show up. Doesnt this kinda defeat the partial purpose of getting a Tivo?

I don't own a Tivo, but I know a bunch of you do so I thought I would pass this on. I serached before posting and didnt find anything. If this is a repost, sorry.

It'll be a drag but I can live with it though, how long does it actually take forward all the commercials, 15secs? I just hope 25% isn't that much ...

Tivo would be great... if there were no monthly service fee...

ReplayTV the same deal ?

EDIT>>> I see you can pay a lifetime fee of $300... not terrible... assuming the same technology remains in play for 2+ years. How long has it been around already ?

What happens when you enable the 30-sec skip button and use it?

Not that big of a deal really. The only downside I can see is if it makes it difficult to spot the end of the commericals when the show comes back on.

"Our goal is in no way to interfere with the TiVo experience," TiVo spokesman David Shane said.

Uh, isn't a popup's entire purpose to get between you and what you're trying to do? This completely destroys the Tivo experience and I expect hacks to defeat this.

Does it keep you from fast-forwarding? Does it prevent you from watching the show you recorded? If not, I'm not sure how this "completely destroys the Tivo experience".

Next we will get fined for Fast Forwarding thru the VCR ads/previews on a blockbuster video tape rental

What also sucks is that they will be targeted ads since Tivo can obviously track what you watch. I have no problem just ignoring the ads though.

Still no ads on my DVR. I guess that's because it doesn't carry any other douchebag's support and branding. Nobody trying to make money off it but me.

Seriously, people, if you're serious about recording stuff, get a real DVR-PC. Sure, a 10-year-old can't use it, but we're all intelligent people here. And judging by how some of you people treat financial issues, you definitely have the cash.

And before anyone says it, mine fits in the formfactor of a VCR when it's installed in the proper case.

I actually think it's pretty cool. It's only displayed for like a second, anyways, who cares...IMO, I'd rather look at a quick ad than a blur on the screen.

Like watching commercials fly by at 8x speed is supposed to be part of the "experience?" I don't really care what shows up on the screen as long as I know when to hit the play button again.

"If viewers press the thumbs-up or select button during the half second the tag is displayed, they will be redirected to a menu that leads to more information about the advertised product. The tag takes up about 25 percent of the screen, according to the company."

Wonder how many people can even find the thumbs-up or select button and push it in 1/2 second!

How is skipping commercials any different for a Tivo than a VCR? I don't get why they are being targeted?

More love for my ReplayTV. 30 sec jump, full commercial skip, no adds.

Yay Replay!

Yeah that is great and all unless you are using directv or digital cable.

I would prefer not to lose quality in the process. Maybe once cable cards come out someone could do a quality dvr with a PC.
