Sub in an RX 480 or GTX 1060 6GB, and you are there, though that is not technically up to the midrange standard we're used to. Just leaving out the spinner puts you dangerously close, too.

Yeah but for a system of that calibre I'll keep the 1 TB HDD, if not increasing to 2 TB at that.

Well, the game is to keep it at $1000, any old spinner laying around can serve as a data drive, or one can be added later. Lacking a data drive won't keep the machine from its gaming mission.

Actually it can due to lack of space on the SSD. I use another drive for my Linux games to make sure I don't run out of space in /home.

At the price of that build Ken6 posted, why not? Close enough to $1000. Athough speaking for myself, I would increase the HDD to 2 TB.

You forgot to include Windows for the $1000 build. Not that I care since I only use Linux anyway, but other people do.

It's a tradition. Mfenn's $1000 build never included Windows. The $500 build always did. I'm not sure why.

OK. Personally if I was putting together the $500 build I would use the money saved by dumping Windows to add an SSD to the build. But that is me.

well you can get legit windows off of cdkey sites. just gotta google it. heck, i just checked ebay, theres a guy selling windows keys for $7.

I wouldn't trust it as it sounds too good to be true. Not that I really care since I longer use Windows and have no plans to do so unless I'm forced to for some reason.
