Attacking weak spots for massive damage

I don't know, but surely it didn't include real-time weapon changing as well...only the latest gen consoles will be able to handle that...and giant crabs.

It's a wonder how the Japanese were able fend off those crabs so many years ago in battle. Those things are really hard to beat.

But man...could you imagine the crab leg feast they would have once they killed them?!

First game I played with it was a mod for Quake 2 called Action Quake 2. I am sure other games had it first. Only took 1-2 shots to the head depending on the gun. About 10-12 times in the arms/legs. 6-7 in the stomace and 3-5 in the chest.

Those are just guesstimates since this was back in like 97-98.

You know, we Americans think we had it tough with our wars. For God's sake, the Japanese were fighting giant crabs!! But you're right, at least they could all kick back and laugh about it when it was all over with some delicious crab legs. 🙂

What are you talking about? 😵

He's talking about locational damage, from the looks of it. Dunno which game had it first though... Half-Life maybe?

Virtually any game with a boss had it. Ever. Starfox and Shinobi are the earliest examples I can remember offhand, but undoubtedly there were others.

Indeed, I was thinking of only FPSs. I'm sure there are plenty of arcade shoot-em-ups that are filled with them as well.

Quake and HL/CS were the first games to make this popular. Quake even had a HEADSHOT!!! sound for getting headshots.

The first game I saw this in was Descent 2 in 1996, where the final boss could only be damaged by hitting a weak spot in back, although I'm pretty sure it was used in 2D platformer games long before that.

Ganon could be hurt best by shooting him in the eye with a Silver Arrow. (Zelda)
You have to Jump on a goomba's head to hurt them unless you spit fire. (Super Mario Bros)
