theres locational damage in hl? i just know in hl2 it seems there isn't...

sure. in HL1, a magnum shot to the head kills a marine while it takes more body shots.

in HL2 there is also location damage. It's very noticable in the beginning with the pistol. But most of the later guns are so frigging inaccurate that it doesn't make a difference unless you are right up against the enemies. I really hate the weapons in HL2.

Well, with Zelda and Mario it wasnt exactly location specific damage, it was just the way you hurt them. If they could be damaged on the head, then they could ONLY be damaged on the head. There wasnt any variable damage for different body parts.
Super Mario 2 may have had it but I dont remember.

But most of the scrolling, action NES games did have something like that. Big bosses that filled up the screen usually had soft spots and hard spots. Same with Genesis and Snes.

As far as shooters went I do seem to recall one of the features in Quake 1 was being able to aim up and down. A few friends said that you could drop enemies quicker if you went for the face. I never noticed it myself.
With games like Half-Life and Unreal it was very noticable.

I hate to say this but Earthworm Jim had something similar. It's been a LONG time but I'm pretty sure there was a boss that could be shot from underneith for extra damage. Don't quote me though.

I do know Techmo's Deception had this for dang sure though. Some traps did MUCH more damage than others to certain people because it hit in the head or feet or whatever.

The one star wars game for the Atari 2600 had this - the Empire Strikes Back one. That's the one where you control the snowspeeder and you are trying to kill the At-At walkers. One part of the walkers flashed a special color, meaning it was their weak spot, so you could destroy it faster if you shot them there.
Looks like that one came out back in 1982. 🙂

I doubt that. Hell, even in Doom 3 locational damage is rare.

Gah can't believe I forgot that one. And to think, anytime I visit grandma I play it too.
