Nobody wants to see V8, RWD sedans become the norm more than I do. The G. Marquis IS woefully underpowered, lacks rear legroom, and IS too stiff in its present form. Since every auto design is a tradeoff of safety VS cost VS performance VS economy VS comfort... it's going to be hard to make everybody happy. I just happen to think that design offers the best trade off, and bang for the buck by far.
Once upon a time, most of America agreed with me, because that was the norm. A V8, RWD, full framed sedan was not a big deal at all. One or two were parked in every driveway across the country. Well, I haven't changed what I prefer, but America has gone through several changes. First the econobox Japanese clone phase. Next came the minivan invasion. After Detroit completely retooled for econoboxes, and FWD everything, the backlash against tiny cramped driving quarters resulted in the truck/SUV insanity.
Now, we've arrived at a point where the Japanese econoboxes are getting larger and larger, with bigger engines, and some even sporting the now worshiped, RWD configuration! 😕 Only trouble is, they're asking a king's ransom for the privilege of driving what used to be common family transportation!
Well, with any luck, the new Chryslers are a sign of things to come. They come with "adequate" 6 cylinders, as well as V8s. I know a 6-banger can get the job done, but I'm used to the effortless, smooth, quiet power of a V8, and I'm willing to pay a higher initial cost, and for the extra fuel to run it. It's all I've ever owned, and all I've ever wanted.
