I'm just curious. When I look back I remember lurking for years before starting an account. I wanted to know things like why did my Pentium 4 play music files better while I was gaming than my Athlon, what video cards to avoid, and cheap deals.

Why did you start coming to AT?

Wanted to learn more and discuss about pc hardware. Things were alot more exciting during the 1990s. Forgot/lost my old account.

I used to come here looking for info before an upgrade or rebuild. Because I worked way too many hours per week to fritter away on forums, I didn't actually join the site until several years later.

My first custom PC build. I was looking for info and deals online, which lead me to Hot Deals. This was in 2005 when it was way more active, and before SlickDeals became big.

While deciding on parts for a new build, I discovered the motherboard forum.

Don't know. But I hung around for the lolz. The place was hilarious. After lurking for more than a year, laughing my ass off, I decided to make an account.

Hot Deals. It might have been one of those end of the quarter Dell coupon sale. Remember the good old days when Dell would have massive coupon sale in order to meet their quarterly sales number for Wall St? Now Dell is private company again they don't have to do that.

Probably researching hardware. I stayed cause I enjoyed the technical topics. Got laid off, and the technical subforums weren't fast enough. so I ended up in ATOT after explicitly saying I wouldn't post here. It was all downhill after that.

Two metric tonnes enough for ya?

Enough for me? Sure. But I'll have some hookers over and my friends will hear about it and they'll stop by with their own hookers and pretty soon you've got 200 friends and 2000 hookers. That's less than two pounds a person. That will get you through Friday night sure, but if the party goes all weekend...

A stranger lured me in with candy

sounds about right.

I started lurking c. 2003 when helping a friend build a PC. I had built maybe 2 or 3 at that point, but it was a few years earlier and I wasn't up to date. Found AT after reading various articles and all of the really good stuff seemed to come from Anand and Co. I made this account a few years later when a new build of my own started having weird problems. Discovered OT many months later and my life was ruined.

Wandered in here in search of the Hot Deals forum....read about it on Sharky Extreme's forums. Was around the time of the WMC's (Wounded Monitor Children), which from what I gathered at the time, was the impetus for the creation of Hot Deals---to get the WMC's and their "musings" corralled into their own forum and out of OT.
