I know the feeling... although im not old! One of my friends had never even seen snow before.... and by the 2nd day we were skiing off of the T-bar at Breck... man... what a blast. I think we are trying to put together another trip this year.. I hope we go!
I just hate that a lot of people are more into weekend ski trips. I always plan 4 day trips or more if I can just to make sure I actually get some time on the mountain to compensate for the plane tickets and car rental costs to get there. If you and your friend could go those dates or around the first of January, we may have 2 or more people to split the lodging and car rentals with you.

If we go, we would drive there. It's only 17hrs from Houston and with 4 drivers it goes by fast. I've been looking at some hotels and most seem to be around $70/night which works out to $100 total for the 4 of us, assuming we all stay in one room. :Q

Nice.... I don't have the option of driving simply for time's sake. It's difficult enough in the season for me to drive 4 hours to visit my parents and go to the slopes in NC that are a mere 55 mins from their house. (not anything like CO or UT though ;))

Yeah, my family used to take ski trips to Salt Lake City, we mostly skied at Brighton because we could stay at a lodge that was 30 feet from the biggest lift there :)

Rockies > Appalachians!

Brighton is my favorite in SLC.....especially for boarding. Solitude always looked cool when I drove by on the way to Brighton, but I never actually boarded there. Snowbird was pretty nice too. I'm wanting to go to Park City to check out the Canyons if I can book early enough to get a place for cheap. I also want hit Big Sky, MT in the next year or two.....that place looks sweet.

I live here in Colorado and have been to Breckenridge a few times. One thing you forgot was food and drink. so for a 5 day stay you better tack on a min of $200 to that $600 figure you have.

Yeah....didn't add the beer in there...but I'm talking up-front travel and lodging costs. Lift tickets vary between all slopes, etc.... If anyone has ever been skiing before, they know it's not cheap. If nothing else, I'll hotel it and cut lodging costs that way. I just like to stay in a more relaxing place with den and fireplace if possible... Hotels usually are noisier and less enjoyable.
