Was driving on a road so filled with pot holes and patches that I couldn't even drink my coffee. City is so behind on maintaining roads.

That's like, all the roads here lol. My street has a bad spot that makes the whole vehicle rock sideways. If you have a coffee in the cupholder it's going to spill. Always have to go very slow on that spot. Some spots it feels like you're driving on a gravel road, in fact most gravel roads are smoother.

To be fair they were on the ball this year at doing lot of scrape and pave in lot of spots. So there are spots where it's nice and smooth now.

Eltek actually got back to me about doing a firmware upgrade on the rectifier shelf. They need to verify something with engineering before I can go ahead but they sent me the new firmware and the tool to do it. Not bad! I was honestly not expecting them to help me given I'm not a commercial user or the original buyer.

A little less than 2 months to the solstice. That's sort of the high point of my year. After that, the sun doesn't set until AFTER 4pm. I should check an almanac. That's probably a small bit of an exaggeration.

I spend most of my time in a fairly big room with just a small window. But that faces East and I tend to get up around 2pm. On the rare occasions when I'm up when the sun is still on that side, it's really pretty annoying, even with the awning. So I'm not really sure why short days bother me.

The bedroom has blackout shades plus shade trees on that side.

I think it must be the surveillance cameras. They go to IR at night which is just b&w. So I guess I have "digital" seasonal affective disorder.

That's the part of winter I hate the most, it's just so dark all the time. Like even in the day, it's darker than a summer day. Basically it's dark before work and dark after work, and doesn't matter what shift I'm on. If I'm on night shift I get home when the sun has not come up yet but if I was working day shift I'd be leaving the house just before that. Same deal going to work, by the time I'm up and showered on a night shift it's dark out and if it's a day shift I'm getting home a little after that. So can't win either way!

Only see daylight on days off.

DST doesn't change much either. Wonder what's going on with abolishing that actually, they keep talking about it but it's not moving very fast.

@Red Squirrel - I'm guessing at your latitude, it's probably not all that diff than being in the Arctic Circle. At least that's more "manic" though - more extreme. It doesn't f*** with you quite as much. Sounds like you're in that seasonal depression "sweet spot." There, don't you feel better now?

I'm watching The Satanic Rites of Dracula (Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, 1972). Have the original Exorcist queued up.

Does not help that we just get overcast pretty much throughout most of winter too. The seasonal depression time tends to be around March-April-May at least for me since by then you've been through the worse of winter, and it's not showing any signs of ending. I think vitamin D takes a while to catch up too. Which reminds me I need to start taking it again. I don't bother in summer since I get lot of sun.

At the end of the day it still beats living in a big city though. I would probably go depressed living in somewhere like Toronto.

@Red Squirrel - That's the nice thing about this area. Well, maybe not so much any more but definitely when it was still largely farmland. Now it's really getting overdeveloped. Great for property values though and I'm spared the worst of it since I only go out when I feel like it. I don't think I would want to live around here were I still working.

Night shifts done nef. Stayed at work an extra hour just chit chatting with the day shift guys to kill some time. Decided to just stay up today and go to bed early, to revert back faster. I may regret that later, we'll see. :p

I may have found a contractor willing to install my chimney. He'll come check what I have so far and give an estimate. Might get him to do heat shield and everything as well. I just want it done so I can actually start using the wood stove.
