I miss Tigerdirect and NCIX. Hard to find server stuff here now as the other sites don't carry much of it. Next time I do a build I'm probably going to try to see what shows up on Ebay, but the shipping is always the deal breaker, but sometimes can get lucky. Failing that I'll just use desktop parts and build my own case. I sometimes toy with looking into doing a custom case through protocase too, but I imagine that would not be cheap for low volume.

I still want to do a Proxmox cluster at some point too, my ESXi box was suppose to be temporary and that was probably like 10 years ago and it's still chugging along. Proxmox would be nice as you can do all the fancy stuff that paid ESXi can do, and you can also manage it from Linux. For my current setup I need to run a Windows VM just so I can get to my VM server.

I'll be spending lot of money on power upgrades for next little while though, so probably no new servers any time soon. Although I might at some point buy a few SFF corporate boxes and max out the ram in them, and play around with Proxmox. Those boxes tend to have super horrible performance as a desktop running Windows but maybe as a server running Linux they will be acceptable. If I feel it's usable I'll migrate my ESXi VMs to it, then convert the ESXi host to proxmox too and add it to the cluster.

As for power, still need to decide on batteries and inverters. I have a few ideas in mind just need to decide how much I actually want to spend vs what my realistic needs are. I can either go overkill and super future proof or go with something that will work and not be as expensive.
