whatever happened to Periscope? Wasn't that a thing like 5 years ago?

Thankx to technology, I'm slowly becoming better at judging periods of time is something a little more granular than 'decades.' nef

Made some more pizza fetuses tonight. Coworker smoked a brisket this past weekend and gave me some for my weekly pizza. Bought an onion, jalapeños and a block of colby jack.

Cats seem to see the world as full of mostly "immovable" objects - even ones that get tossed about by the wind.

I suppose it's an evolutionary adaptation. Leave no sign of your presence, at least until that's the point. Then leave a nice, heaping pile of dung where it can't be missed.

How did you miss all the cat videos showing them shoving things off wherever the things were standing on?

As readers here might already know, I've been in a years long battle with the raccoons. Hit the treadmill you porky, little rodents. I've gone so far as to use blow gun, "stun" darts from the second (really 1.5) story window. For those not familiar, a stun dart is just a blunt plastic dart, although some are "enhanced" with a steel slug. Haven't used those.

So here is some dope on raccoon behavior. If one has become adapted to finding food at a particular location, they will frequent that place, but not indefinitely. After a certain number of sequential disappointments, they may subsequently only return periodically.

We are now at that point - which may be one of a crucial inflection. The cat kibble doesn't seem to have an easily detectable odor. So for the first week or so, I distributed kibble around the front and side of the house but only at night. The cats know their territory so they are constantly on "patrol." Not so much for the raccoons.

Unfortunately, the morning feeding only survives for maybe 3 to 4 hours once the starlings, jays, woodpeckers and their ilk get involved. And some of the kitties didn't seem to get the memo. So there's a ledge above the food bowl created with an old redwood picnic seat (no legs). It's about 2.5 feet above the porch platform. On that, I've place a secondary paper bowl.

Tonight I will be watching to see if any of the raccoons figure this out.

Ah, but these are ferals.

One just checked the lower food bowl and left. Hopefully he/she will have a chat with its frenemies.

The hope is that even if the raccoons figure this out they'll be too portly to make the climb.

It was me.

The fox is onto the scent. I don't dare move though. Very skittish. Sooner or later he's going to jump up on the ledge because I BELIEVE!!

Then again. I guess it wasn't hungry enough to take such a bold step. Could be back though.

There's something in the backyard but not moving.

Well, my gracious. The girly birds are on the upper level - which was nearing empty around dawn (5am). The occasional tourist comes by the lower bowl which is half full.

Oooo, the raccoons will feast tonight. Yes they will.
