I'm finally working on scanning the photos from my parents' photo albums. Sister dropped off a lot of them 3-4 months ago. Just now have found time to start this huge task.

you can pay someone to scan them you know

Really? Why would I want to do that? I don't want anyone touching them except for me or my sister.

I'm going to archive them and then give them back to her. It's tedious carefully taking out each old photo from the album sleeve. I'm not to happy that my mother arranged later albums with photos over one another. That was the style of the day. I'm guilty of that as well later on. I will most likely scan the whole page on those ones.

I'm starting with my baby pics and moving forward from there. Any of you have done this before? It was a pain in the butt when I scanned my first Navy deployment. Take out photo, scan, photoshop, save., put photo back. Fun...

lol I didn't bother.

lol I didn't bother.

Why lol? I want to archive these so that I can preserve them and share them. If the original photos become damaged, destroyed or lost there is no getting them back unless I archive them. I got the resources. I set up my sister with a Plex account so she can access my home server. Will probably do the same for my nephew as a Christmas gift.

My parents have tons of albums too, would be sad if something happened to them. I should try to figure out a way to mass scan them and do it for them one day. Thinking a setup that uses a camera would be faster, then a sheet of glass to press down the pages. Just need to get the lighting right and think it would work. Same with all the family VHS tapes, like me as a baby and stuff, should digitize those one day. Just the thing of getting properly setup for it so that it's fast and efficient. Like for the VHS what I'd want to do is set it up so that whatever is capturing would stop the capture once the tape ends. That way I can put a tape in it and then walk away. Could probably do that with a Raspbery Pi or arduino or something and then have it talk to the PC that's capturing. Come to think of it my church has lot of cassette tapes they want to convert too.

Nice to think about but probably never going to actually do it. 😛 I should though.

I almost pulled the trigger on a 3800x,just chscked the price.424,you motherfuckers.nvm still 380.a chinese firm was selling for 40 cheaper earlier, risky.might pass.

Pass. I can get a better deal from Amazon and can pick any card. I've got a 1080 Ti. Unless I upgrade my monitor, I think I would pass on the new video card anyways.
That's where I am. I have a 1920x1200 60hz monitor. There is zero reason to get a faster card than my current 1070 without buying a new monitor. I want a new monitor but the monitor I want is hinky with Windows.
