I have one about that size, but it's mixed in with utility lines. I meant to get it last year, but didn't get to it. I'm a little uncertain how to approach it. Thinking about making a pole saw to take it off near the wires, then I can get the rest of the branch. That way there'll be less chance of doing something bad to the wires. I puzzle over it a bit, think "I'll get it later", and here I am... I need to do something cause the branch is split, and I don't want disease setting in.
edit:
Just went out and looked at it again. I'm thinking it'll make a good first attempt at limb walking. I can use my ropes and saddle to get out on the limb, cut it closer to the wires, then take the rest of the limb down. That'll be after I get my evergreen down. That's gonna happen tomorrow. I need to get my other redwood in the ground, and that tree has to go first.
I've been taking it slow. I went up with spurs the first time a few weeks ago, and removed limbs with my handsaw. Last week I went up with a chainsaw, and got about 66% to where I need to be. I'll finish tomorrow. Remove the rest of the limbs, then block it down til I can fell it from the bottom without hitting anything. Climbing really kicks my ass. Once I get set to do some cutting, the spurs bury in the trunk, and it's hard to get them unstuck. Add in it all being new to me, it's a lot of things to keep track of at once with a big dollop of stress. Fun though. I have a ~60' spruce that isn't looking good. I don't want to remove it, but it may come to that. The neighbor's shed is ~10' away. That'll add in an extra challenge bringing it down. I'd be looking forward to it if it didn't mean losing a tree.
