I understand. Waiting for a potential employer to call back is annoying. I'm happy if they call just to say I didnt get it. But most of them are not that polite these days.

I don't mind getting an email or a call telling me I didn't get the job, just knowing is better than not hearing back at all.
 
Is "The Anglo-Saxon Chronicles" a good read? Or is it more of a reference piece?

Maybe it depends on the translator.
