Upon further review, a lot of the FM parts list is high on little things. Wires, connectors, plugs, bolts, tape, paint, fluids, et cetera... overpriced by a bit, plus there's already a ton of them here in the house.
The motor, transmission, drivetrain, ECU/harnesses, even the fuel pump and filter... all that totals to somewhere around $15-16k.
I found that GTO the next town over for $6000, and the remnants after gutting it might go for $2000 as scrap, so $4000 total cost. A third of the money to get you all those things listed above.
There's still subframe costs, suspension, that sort of thing, but really, it means with a little looking, a little patience, and some snagging good deals, the whole conversion can be done for $10000.
