Ok, I have to admit -- the Kinect technology is pretty cool. They would've buried Nintendo had they released it sooner or with the Xbox.

you remember everyone was dissing revolution before it came out? No one ese believed motion would amount to anything more than a gimmick.

Yes, I remember. Ask yourself this though -- how many people who bought the Wii within a year of release actively play it? Heck, I bought my wife one for Christmas a couple of years ago and the only time it gets played is at our parties. It is a dust collector most of the rest of the year and from what I've heard, most people are the same way with their Wiis. Had Microsoft responded with Kinect a couple years earlier, they may have been able to seriously impact Wii sales.

My limited sample of families (aka friends and co-workers w/ kids) would show their game boxes being used regularly.

I'm just going from some of the accounts I read in the Console Gaming forum and from my admittedly limited sample here. One friend bought it when it came out and later sold it, and ours gets very little use. Now, if you have small kids, I imagine it would get played frequently. I do think it is somewhat fun, but I bought it for my wife to play and she probably plays it less than 5 times per year and one of those times (our annual NYE party) probably accounts for 80% of the actual time she spends on it. I generally spend my time on PC, Xbox, and PS3 games.

I have a feeling she might play the Kinect a little more, but I am not holding my breath. I do think the Kinect is a cool device but I never thought it was worth $150. She got it for $99 with 3 games and at that price, it is probably worth it.

A friend of mine's 4 yr old son loves the Wii bowling so much, that it's a motivational tool. "Do [that] / finish [that] and you'll get an extra 5 minutes" (or X full games or whatever)
