We need to master space travel. If I can do it in video games I should be able to do it in real life!

I think space travel is one area where science fiction (such as Star Trek) has been way too optimistic. Remember, the original series takes place in the 23rd century and the Next Generation in the 24th century and by then, they've explored something like 10% of the galaxy. There is no way on earth that I see humanity in a position to have explored 10% of the galaxy in just under 400 years.

There is so much we need to discover to get there. I'd say in 300 to 400 years, the most we could hope for at this stage is colonies on the Mars and Moon and maybe some scientific posts in the outer solar system. I'd imagine we would've sent probes to the nearest stars by then as well.

Yes, 4.5 billion years is the estimate. If humanity is still around then, I'm sure they'll be able to survive.

But the outcome may be totally interesting. Our night sky will glow.. it is pretty awesome just to imagine that. I am not worried about us making through.. because our universe will die eventually.

Even if it is for a fraction of a second.. I would love to witness the death of our sun.
