One of my chestnut trees died so I'm going to try to grow some new ones.
I'm going to start 2 indoors and if they develop a decent layer of bark, I'll plant them in March or April.
For another 2, I'm going to drill the stump and try to grow them from there. Got a 1" by 12" auger for that job.
It was never a very big tree. The stump isn't circular but roughly 8" across. So I might hollow out the stump completely. I'm guessing that should give the new roots a clean shot to the ground. And this time I'm putting out food spikes for fruit trees.
